Ive been having dizzy spells and shakes so my dad just tested my blood sugar and its 3.9 :-\ what do u girls eat on a typical day? I thought i was eating enough but obviously not!!

could it be a matter of what you're eating? I know it sounds stupid but I get low blood sugar if I eat too many carbs and not enough other things.

you need an additional 500 cals per day. deffo eat more carbs! xx

Your blood sugar will be different at different times of day. Before you eat, so on an empty stomach I've been told to look for levels of between 4-6 so 3.9 is only just outside that, but if you'd eaten recently, say an hour or two beforehand, then that would be worrying.

Yeah i hadnt eaten that long ago. Today was 4.9 after lunch. Just feel weak and shaky all the time, being so tired probs isnt helping!

4.9 is low, especially if it was a wee while after eating (I can be low immediately after, but once it's digested I'm fine). I'm guessing your dad knows all this if he has a monitor already though. I'd def get checked out.

I'd say 3.9 is totally normal pre meal or a few hours post meal. The monitors have varying degrees of accuracy too.

My normal pre meal reading whilst being diabetic in pregnancy was 3.2 - 4. I personally felt fine at those levels (it is quite individual though)

Are you eating balanced meals? Also eating sugary things can cause your blood sugar to 'crash' and then you get the shakes and feel rough even when your bs isn't that low x

Hi there,
My baby boy is 10 months now and I've suffered with this the whole time! I feel for you, it's just horrible. I get hot and cold sweats, get dizzy and shakey and struggle to talk properly. I asked the doctor about this and she said it is because I'm feeding a big baby! I'm not 100% convinced though.
I have to really make sure I don't go too long without food. If I get bad I have to have something very sugary to make me 'come round' a bit, or ill have a can of full fat coke or something. Probably the wrong thing to do but it makes me feel better fast.

Also, i don't know about you but I have struggled to maintain my weight during breastfeeding and I think I have a fast metabolism too, I think that contributes sometimes.

Let me know how you get in if you go to the doctor, I'd be interested to know. X

Heya thanks for all the replies :flower: i been to docs and he said my blood sugar is fine but my blood pressure is dropping when i stand up (apparently it should rise slightly)

So ive been for a blood test and am having an ecg on weds eeek xx
