Hi ladies. I hope this is allowed. I'm hopping over from second tri. I posted in gestational complications, but it seems to be pretty quiet over there. At my 20 week scan, it was found that I have a low-lying placenta. My doctor assured me that they often move, but if it doesn't I will have to have a c-section which I really don't want to do. The reason I'm posting in third tri: I was wondering if any of you were told at your anatomy scan that your placenta was low-lying, and if so has it moved? My doctor said it definitely isn't considered previa, just near the cervix. I've had two vaginal births already and I'm really not looking forward to the idea of a c-section... I don't think I would be able to breastfeed, as I had emergency surgery after my first was born that caused my milk to not come in, and I worry a c-section would do the same. It came in fine with my second child, though, thanks to my easy labor. I'd hate to not have that bond again. Anyway, I'm really off on a tangent now! Thanks for your time, ladies. :)

I had a low lying placenta at my 12 week scan and then by the time I had another private scan at 15 weeks, it had moved down even lower and was then completely covering my cervix..!
I was terrified but then when I had my 20 week scan, it had moved right up and out of the way!

The large majority of them do move, you may be rescanned around 32/34 weeks if they're concerned and want to check :-)

I had the same at my 20 week scan and it had moved by my week 32 scan:thumbup: Ended up doing a c-section anyway as they suspected my baby was 4.7 kg and advised me it was the safest option. He ended up being a tad over 4.0 kg though:dohh: I think my milk came in ok but had issues figuring out breastfeeding and the midwives at the hospital sucked at helping me so did end up with a supply issue (that has since been resolved and is fine thanks to my health care provider!). But I don't think a c-section interferes with your milk:shrug:

Mine was low lying at 20 weeks moved by 30, regular uncomplicated delivery at 39 and 5, 8lb 1oz I had the same worries as you and my Dr assured me they usually move. Of course I still worried every day until they confirmed it moved lol

With my second daughter I had a low-lying placenta at my 20-week scan. They scanned me again toward the end of the 3rd trimester, and sure enough it had moved up and out of the way. No issues. :)

Mine moved up too
Only very small percentage doesnt
My sils moved up really late and had vag birth
Think she was over 36 weeks by the time it did
Best of luck xx

They found mine low lying at 20 weeks, and I was scanned at 24 and again at 28, it's full on previa now, and they will do another scan next week at 32 weeks to see if it has moved yet. I have done a lot of reading and it's not very common that it doesn't move out of the way, but I am starting to think that mine isn't going to. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you until you get further along. Have they put you on pelvic rest?

Mine was close to the cervix at 16 weeks during my 3rd pregnancy, but not touching it. By 20 weeks it was well out of the way. It's good that yours isn't overlying and the VAST majority do move, so try not to worry xxxxxx

Thanks, ladies. I'm glad to hear it usually moves. Froggy, I hope yours does too. My doctor said it's very, very rare for it to move the other way! Just goes to show, though...
I'm trying to prepare myself for a c-section, but also stay hopeful that I might get to have a normal birth. I'm being scanned again at 28 weeks to check it, and again at 32 and 36. FX!

Following.....I'm in the same boat. Not too worried but I really am hoping for vaginal delivery.

I had placenta previa with ds3 and i read up loads about it, it is pretty rare for it not too move so I'm sure you'll be ok. If you prepare yourself for c section and then it doesn't happen that's a massive bonus, good luck I hope it moves for you

Mine was low lying at 20 and 22 weeks. I'm having a scan on the 16th so I'll let you know then if it's moved. Just to reassure you though I had a section last time and my milk came in at 2 days pp so section doesn't necessarily mean milk won't come in
