We have just received the news that my husband has a very low sperm count at 6 millions per ml with 14% progressive motility and 10% with normal morphology. We have been told that we will be unable to conceive naturally and have been referred to the fertility specialist.

We are both in shock and i really need to hear some success stories and advice. Thank you!

Hi Lynsey. I didn't wanna read and run but I'm affraid i can't help you but just wanted to wish you luck. I hope there are loads of success storeys out there that will help you.

Wishing you loads of luck for your BFP!

Hey hun, I don't know much about this sorry so hopefully some other ladies out there can shed some light for you....I do have a friend however, who had PCOS and her hubby low sperm count. They tried a few things but because she had PCOS too it was difficult. Someone suggested TCM - Traditional Chinese Medicine. They both had a few goes at accupunture and now have a lovely little girl.....hope this helps a little and hope u and hubby are ok x

I am really sorry you have receved this news, was it his first test?

My dh had a really bad first sperm result but with lifestyle changes it has improved, still not great but certainly better.

My first advice would be get your dh to stop having baths, drinking alchole, smoking and cut down caffine. Take a good mulit vitamin, plus amino acids (will have to check the 3 he needs). Only have :sex: every 2-3 nights to allow sperm to build up but at the same time keeping them fresh. Give him some sunflower seeds to eat. Wear loose fitting boxers.

I hope this helps, and you get an improved 2nd test in 3 months time xxx

Hey hun, just found this for you https://www.zitawest.com/area.php?section=5&item=65

Zita West's books are fab and she's helped people like Davina McCall and Kate Winslet!

Hi and welcome!

This is horrible news, we went throught the same thing earlier this year.

I agree with ald. If this is his first test, there are loads of reasons why it could be low. Things like illness, a heavy night on the booze can all drastically affect count. It takes up to 12 weeks for lifestyle changes to show any improvement but def get another test.

We're waiting for our first IVF treatment cos of low count and although it's not how we romatically thought our first born would be conceived, it will give us a chance. IF this test is his true count and it doesn't improve, don't despair.

:hugs:

Hiya,

I don't have a success story (yet!) but didn't want to read and run. We found out a month ago that DH had low sperm count too, and have been referred to a FS.

I keep saying to myself that it only takes one little spermie, and while we are waiting, trying for a natural pregnancy. There's always hope! Like Kath said, it's a shock to take in at first to realise that your idea of family by romantic means might not be possible, but slowly I'm coming round to the idea that I'll do anything to have a family. I guess this is the one thing where the destination is more important than the journey! :)

If it's any consolation, it's 6 times higher than my DH's count!

Good luck!

Hi

Hey Lyns

We also had this last year - 1 million count with 15% morphology and 25% motility. DH made his lifestyle changes (no more baths) along with taking wellman fertility vits from supermarket, Maca that we got online (herbal supplement) and 1000mg of vit c everyday. Sperm take 70-90 days to mature so it will take 3 months approx to show any improvement.... when he did his next test in Jan he had gone up to 8 million and 50% motility/morphology - due a third one end of this month and hopefully it'll have gone up some more.

Fingers crossed you get an improvement but please don't lose hope - i know how much of a shock it is but it does get better, promise :hugs:

I agree with the girls on here, dont give up hope and most of all - dont let it get you down! My oh has a low sperm count etc too, we were told by our doctor that its not impossible although chances are, we will need help. I have just gone through blood tests and scans before our doc refers us to the FS.
It is awful to hear and get your head round, but you will! Give each other lots of support and I hope everything goes ok hun

Thanks so much for your replies - we have another sperm test on the 17th and we go back to see our GP on the 22nd. Fingers crossed

Thought I'd tag my success story on the end here because it amazes me every day! My DH has low motility and I have issues with ovulation and cysts. We were told that we would never conceive naturally and that there was no point trying any other medical intervention other than IVF.

We had ICSI in 2006 and in 2007 our twins were born. We didn't bother with contraception. After all we were told categorically that nothing would ever happen unless we had IVF. In January, after 9 years without contraception, we discovered we were expecting baby number 3 and he's due at the end of August.

I am the luckiest woman alive!

Best of luck to you. :hugs:

Just wanted to say there are quite a few of us here hun, Im in the same boat, husband has had 2 counts one 7mil and one 5 with similar morphology and motility, I know how devastating the news is:hugs::hugs:

Were just waiting for our FS appointment but in the meantime keeping trying and keeping up those lifesyle changes. We will get our babies!

Well we had the results of my blood tests and internal scan and everything has come back fine so that was good news, although I know that anything can be found during the fertility investigations in regards to possible blocked tubes and poor egg quality. I still feel positive though!

Even better my husband got his results of his second SA today and the count has increased from 4million to 20 million but there are still some issues with mobility. Considering that there has only been a month between appointments we are really pleased with this result. He has been taking various vitamins, not wearing underwear and stopping hot baths. We are also going to see an acupuncture specialist in two weeks who has been so helpful so far.

Fingers crossed.....

We have our 1st appointment at the fertility clinic on the 3rd August 2009 which funnily enough is my 30th birthday and our 1st wedding anniversary so I am taking that as a good sign!

What happens on the first appointment? It says to expect to be there 3 hours and bring money for prescriptions!

hey is this very first app at clinc or first treatment app? i presume its very first app? if so not sure about the perscription thing didnt think they would be giving perscriptions so early, usually (at my clinic anyway) they simply interview you and ask things like last smear, how long you have been together, any known problems such as STIs generall history really. Took me by surprise that they took swabs from down there there and then to check for STIs, glad i have my muffin waxed night before just incase haha. It took about 30 mins max but including filling out forms like signing concent forms probably about 1hr to 1.5 hrs. They then usually schedule HSG and follicle tracking for a start and may even take blood to check for rubella immunity etc.

Good luck and hope this helps, if you have anymore questions please feel free :) x
