So my DH has low testosterone. His doctor mentioned something about Androgel but said that it is a hormone so can affect TTC. So we are waiting for our first appointment with the RE to ask them.

My question is, has anyone's DH's had experience with testosterone treatments? Can they really affect sperm?

Well my DH hasnt taken any testosterone prescription, but he does body build and takes natural supplements to increase his testosterone, which in turn has helped his sperm. He takes tribulus. It is an herb. He also eats 3 cloves of raw garlic a day. Yes it is disgusting to him but it really does work. Lots of body builders will eat garlic/garlic supplements. I dont have any info about prescription meds though!

Thanks a lot for the info :)

I am just guessing that a doctor would only prescribe meds and not suggest any natural supplements that he can take.

I will look into the garlic supplements!

If you look into garlic supplements make sure it has a high allicin content in the supplement. :)

androgel will lower sperm count.....
Ask dr. anyway but unless they are feriltity specialist they may not know about TTC and hormones....
My OH has awesome sperm cont when not taking testoserone...but when he does its sooooo low!

Hope you don't mind me popping in here, but we have some experience with this. Whatever you do, don't let Drs give your DH testoterone while TTC. It will trick the testicles into thinking that they no longer need to work produce sperm, believe me, you don't want this to happen. Has your DH had a semen analysis done? Make sure if he has low testosterone that you are being treated by a specialist, as GPs seem to know very little about Male Factor issues & testosterone. All the best :flower:

Thanks for the information ladies.

DH has had a SA done. He had a high count of 144.8 million total! But his motility was on the lower end. I am wondering if the SA was a fluke now. He was taking Mucinex at the time.

DH is definitely not going to take anything right now. Our first appointment with the RE is on April 20th, so we will wait to see what they say.

It is just hard because DH has a low libido :(

I know this is a post from a while ago but I am hoping to find out some info. My DH has low t & we have been ttc for over 2 years. I have been looking into supplements over the counter. Our insurance hasn't yet kicked in due to a new job. So my doctor's appointments and medicine has been all out of pocket. He gave him a referral to get his sperm checked but we are trying to hold out as long as we can to save money,

I seen the date when you wrote this post & your child is now 4 months so it is fairly close when you conceived. "CONGRATS" Just wondering what worked for you.

Hey! 3/25/12 (my last post) was actually the night I conceived my son! Weird! HAHAHA

I think my DH still has low T. However, he wasn't the reason we couldn't conceive. It was my high T and stupid PCOS. We had our first RE appointment scheduled for the next month but I ended up getting my BFP right before it. I didn't do anything special. Just DTD A LOT.

DH has been taking a supplement called Tribulus for a while now. And while he hasn't had his T levels re-checked, he thinks that the supplement has helped. You should check it out!

Oh, and I suggest he get a sperm analysis done. It will tell you a lot. Good luck!

I was surprised to see this in this section. I am planning on sending my DH for a T test soon (he's on too many medications right now as he has been ill to do the test yet so probably in the next few weeks) I think my DH has had low T for a while now - he has had all the symptoms of it and they have been getting worse and worse, however we still did manage to conceive my second child relatively easily - whether this was thanks to a lot of prayer I have no idea as low T can result in low sperm numbers - we have not had this checked either.

What I wanted to say though is that in researching this they do say that men can take Clomid (the same drug given to women for infertility) and that it will increase T in men without causing infertility that T supplements do. It is also supposed to increase libido. However it is extra-label (not registered for men) so you would have to persuade your doctor (and DH) to prescribe it. I was researching this as I want my DH treated to increase his libido, make him healthier and feel better, improve his sleep issues, but I also want to conceive a third child.

Ladies,

I've been TTC since Nov 2011 and just found out today I am pregnant. Naturel - no meds. My husband had low T, motility 10% and morphology at 1%.

1) Find a urologist that specializes in fertility. You can find this information out in his biography on the website. Our urologist put my husband on clomid for 4 months. If your urologist is putting him on anything else besies clomid - find another doctor. Strong steroids will make him have 0 sperm.

2) It takes 3 months for new sperm to regenerate. To help with motility - have him exercise and wear lose boxers. Put him on the vitamins that in the Conception XR tablet. It's cheaper to buy them individually at Target or Walmart then to buy Conception XR which is like 80 bucks a bottle.

For morphology, the only thing that works is anti oxidant. Put hubby on power smoothie. Blend blueberries, OJ, apple, banana and give it with dinner.

Hubby started this in Jan 2013. We found out April 2013 we are pregnant.

Your DH can get his T levels checked with a simple blood test. Tell him to go get a physical. They will check it then. Good luck to you!!

They put my hubby on clomid. He takes it every other day. Helped his levels with no real side effects.
Its techinically an anti-estrogen.

babydust, thanks for sharing! that's really good to know. My DH has very low sperm count and we think it's down to low T levels. I have him on tribulus and horny goat weed, he also started building some muscles, lost a lot of weight and quit beer. I am so hoping this can help but I do not see any changes in his sex drive so it might be that chlomid is our answer. I am going to raise it with our FS.
