Im about 6months late since she was born in Sept 2012 but shes finally sleeping at night so I get some mommy time.

The day before my due date I was getting mild contractions from about 11pm (Sept 13th) and they were all over the place. I had a doc apt on Fri Sept 14th and my doc confirmed I was 3cm dilated and said baby would be born by Sunday. Contractions started getting closer together. My due date was Sept 15th. On Sept 15th at about 6am my contractions were about 10mins apart so I started getting ready for the hospital. By 8am they were 5mins apart so we headed to the hospital. in the 10min drive there my contractions were 3mins apart. The docs still said I was only 3cm. They asked if I was going to go the natural route and I was. they were so supportive showing me laboring techniques (the ball, on my knees etc). Meanwhile my mom is with me and my hubs went to put down a deposit on a house we were going to purchase that just came up for sale the day before. (yes I went house hunting in the middle of labor on Sept 14. I scared the homeowner because I had to sit on the stairs in the middle of contractions) (our dream home).

My hubs comes back at 11am and they say im at 5cm and progressing nicely the natural route so stick with it. its really intense at this point and about 2mins apart. im sitting on the bed in labor and going back and forth from the bed to the ball however everytime I lay back to get examined im in an immense amt of pain and feel myself being ripped apart. the doc said its because my contractions are more intense when I lay down. at 3pm they break my water hoping to nudge labor along. By 7pm I was only at 8/9cm and the doc says I should start Pitocin to push things along a bit faster. I was all for it after being in labor for over 40hrs at this point. Contractions got stronger and one on top of the other to the point where it turned into a 30min contraction, a 30sec break and another 30min long contraction. The babys heartrate dipped from 150bpm to 140bpm and the nurse said if I wanted to have her vaginally I needed to seriously consider an epidural to help baby and myself relax. She said I could just have enough to take the edge off and still feel the contractions so after debating it I accepted. The epi went off without a hitch however an hr later baby's heartrate dipped again from the 150's down to 60bpm. they called a code pink (which was one step away from code blue) and about 8 nurses and 3 docs came rushing in. One nurse had her hand up my cervix jostling baby by her head and flipping me from side to side. after about 20seconds of this (longest time of my life) babys heartrate jumped right back up. They gave me oxygen and told me to 'relax'.

by this time it was a few mins before 10pm. a nurse came in to check how much I had dilated and then asked if I had filled out a survey yet. I basically said wtf?? and looked at my mom and saw her face drop. the nurse pulled out a form and said "I wanna get this done before the doc comes to check u so im gonna read out the questions and u just answer" I had no idea wtf was going on. after the nurse left I begged my mom to tell me why they needed to know my medical history on the form and she said "c section" she didn't want to tell me originally and it was like pulling teeth. the doc came in (such a sweetheart too) and checked me. It turned out that I wasn't at 8/9cm but still at 3cm!!! The previous nurses and docs didn't pick up on it because I was in the middle of a contraction every time I laid down (hence the excruciating pain) and my cervix seemed wider than it really was. the only reason this doc picked up on it was because of the epidural. right before he checked my dilating the babys moved away from birthing position and into my chest/lung area and turned sideways and her heartrate dropped again. the nurse called another code pink and before I knew it they were running me down to the OR. They didn't have time to replace the epi with the right meds so they put me on my side and gave me a spinal block below the epi. Less than 10mins later via emerg c section my Lylah was born. Her cord was wrapped around her body cutting off her breathing and slowing her heart down whenever she moved :(

She was a healthy 6lbs 120z and 21inches long.

The Drama isn't over yet!

It took the doctors over 2hrs to get the bleeding to stop and then get me all sewed up. I had to stay an extra two days in the hospital to be monitored for a transfusion.
After that all while I was in the recovery room the head nurse was with us and she finally admitted after being badgered by my hubs (she was a sweetheart too) that the docs were not expecting my Lylah to be perfectly healthy (they had NICU head nurses in the OR with us) and they wouldn't have been surprised if she wasn't alive. then afterwards with all my bleeding they weren't expecting me to make it either. After hearing that it really shook me up and took me almost 2 weeks to become emotionally attached to Lylah. Yes I took care of her and loved her but I was scared to get emotionally invested. Shes now a healthy 6month old little bug who loves to play and scream.
