I can't believe she's finally here! Almost a week over due, I didn't think she was ever going to pop out!
My labor was a long one.. it started Friday Oct 3 around 6:30 at night, contractions were about 15 mins apart and steady throughout the night. We had taken our two year old out for supper, ran to the grocery store, and then settled in with a movie. I didn't sleep much that night, I was too busy counting time in between contractions.
Saturday morning we went for a walk, my contractions were still about 15 mins apart until we finished the walk and then it was like a constant contraction that didn't go away. I decided I wanted to go to the hospital. Our hospital is about 1 1/2 hours away and I wanted to be in the city early in labor since we had friends we could stay with. So we packed up our 2 year old and dog and dropped them off with my in-laws and drove off for the hospital.
After getting there I was checked and only about 2-3 cm, I was informed that the Dr that does epidurals wasn't there on weekends, and my delivery Dr was out of town for the weekend... enter panic mode.. We decided to stay at the hospital and do the labor without epidural and they called my delivery Dr who decided to come back Saturday after his meetings. We also decided since I wasn't getting an epidural to labor at our friends house as long as possible and just be comfortable. The nurse gave me a sleeping pill on advice from my Dr that I get some sleep to prepare for the labor. We went back to our friends house, went out for supper, visited, and then before we went to bed that evening we went back to the hospital to be checked. I was 4-5 cm and baby was no longer engaged, we could have been admitted if we wanted to, but I was more comfortable with getting some sleep at our friends. I fell asleep around 10pm and slept soundly until 5 when I woke up..
Sunday morning contractions were about 3-5 mins apart so I showered, and got ready and we headed back to the hospital. At this point when they checked me I was only about 5-6 cm but we were admitted because my Dr had decided it was time to break my waters. He showed up about 3 hours later at 1pm and broke my water, nurses gave me a lock for fentinol and I managed labor on my own with only 2 shots of fentinol (which by the way was an amazing ride!! My husband sure got a kick out of watching me on that stuff!). About an hour later I was checked and was only at 7 cms... then all hell broke lose!! I went from 7-10cm and pushing within 15 mins, my delivery Dr just about didn't make it into the room. I have heard of women saying that labor is a total out of body experience and that is totally the way I felt!! My body took over and pushed, I don't even remember being there.. it took me three good pushes and she was out!
So thats my story... nothing too special, but I'm so glad she's here and we are doing great!
