magical elf tradition?

hi,

does anyone do the magical elf tradition?


those who do know what i mean, those who dont - kids write letter to santa asking for an elf to come and stay over december. the elf is meant to make notes for santa - good and bad BUT gets upto mischief!!!

this is the 3rd year we will be having an elf to stay. i have my mischief planned BUT not sure whethere i will have moved house b4 he arrives! (could be evn more fun!)

its very big in america, i came across the idea on a website middle novemeber the year i did it 1st time, and i couldnt get a proper elf, so we had a "7-dwarfe" from snow white - xmas ribbon and bells! and bertie was born.

I read about this a few weeks ago and have been planning it ever since, I can't wait to make it a tradition and do it every year, I'm probably more excited about this than I am about Christmas!

I read this idea on here a few weeks ago and I love it !!!! (I think it might have been your post amylw1) I have already started looking out for an elf The 'proper' elves are about $30 even without shipping ! But since our LO isn't due till April I don't need it till next year ( Of course it will be more for DH and I for the first few years haha but I think it will be fun ! )

if you search rag doll on ebay there are loads of cute dolls that wouldnt take much altering to become elves - add xmas ribbon or bells to hair and shoes etc.

PLUS as it says on berties site - elves can come in any size or shape - so if you can only find an xmas dog you like, you make your own story around it - the elves havent got time to look after the puppy etc.

if you only have a young little 1, you dont have to cause mischief, maybe just move it to a different place - like upstairs from down or into the kitchen - places where LO goes and will see it.

buy a nice "elf" (fairy etc) and name it, buy or make a sleping bag (xmas stocking). leave it in this somewhere she can see it during the day - on a window sill, by tv etc.

i wouldnt do anything every night but once or twice move it - cot mobile? in the cot bars? pushchair? etc. as long as she has seen it where it should be she will take in it has moved.


then next year you can do more but again not every day as still abit young. BUT if you start now, think of all the years of fun you can have and she will appreciate it.
