I usually make my LO's feed in advance for the day by putting boiling water in the bottles and making up the feeds when needed. However i have found that once the boiled water has cooled to room temperature when i add the formula, the formula is sitting on the surface of the water and not disolving in...has anyone else had this experience? Why does it happen? im finding the formula is spilling everywhere! xx

ya ,i could never get it to mix right. So im using concentrated formula... much easier to deal with.

Can I hi-jack for a second please???

Ryder - what is concentrated formula and how does it work?? I'm not sure if we get that over here?? I have some cartons of ready made stuff in case, which you just stick in a bottle and warm - it that the same??

Kinda the same. The "ready-made" is exactly as it's called, already made.. you just give to baby.
The concentrated is like a big can/jub of formula (already liquid) that you mix with water (usually 50/50).

Thanks MB - I kinda guessed thats what it is - they dont do that over her to my knowledge but if they did / do I think it sounds a lot easier. :)

I know they do small cartons of ready made formula here...

Its just easier buying a big bulky box thats all...xx

i add the formula when the water is warmish so dissolves, then put in a jug of cold water or the fridge to cool

I always heat the water up before adding the formula as i find it desolves better.

hey i make all bottles in advance incl forumula...thats what my mum taught me and jen has never been ill, never had a cold nothin wrong at all....she is a happy bouncin baby!! xxx

I put the formula while the water is hot and then put it in the fridge and later pop it in the bottle warmer.

Actually we continue to have this problem, the powder doesnt always dissolve right away, but by the time we bring the bottle out of the fridge and warm it up it's always dissolved  Not quite sure why it happens that way.

May sound like a silly question, but are you shaking it up enough?? You do have to shake it pretty damn vigorously!

I only say this, as it took me the first couple of weeks of making up bottles in many ways, shapes and forms, to realise I wasn't shaking them hard enough!! :dohh:

i use hot water and mix 4 bottles, cool them in water then put them in the fridge until needed

Im shaking it like crazy after...its just when im actually putting the formla into the bottles im having this problem xxx

what formula are you using? when i used aptamil it dissolved straight away whe nit hit the water but now im on cow and gate it sinks to the bottom and sits, even after ive shaken it really well and put it in the fridge if i go back to it when i need it i have to shake again before heating because all the 'milk' has gone to the bottom of the bottle and the waters at the top.

I always have to cool down the water a bit or the steam from the hot water condenses on the bottle and makes the formula stick the sides

Well, if it's when you first put the formula in, I wouldn't expect it to dissolve all that much until you shake it! So as long as it's all dissolved properly once you've shaken it, then I can't see the problem?!

I use the same method as you- boiled water in sterilised bottles then add Aptamil powder if/ when required. I have a tommee tippee bottle and it is a pain because the level of the water (8 oz) is so near the top I usually spill some powder. I normally try and use one of my NUK bottles because they are taller. I give it a good shake and the powder dissolves fine, although not as quickly as with warm water.

My water is hard if that makes a difference.

I use aptamil and it normally dissolves even if the water is almost cold x

Yeh but the problem is, is that if it doesnt dissolve in the water then the formula will be spilling out on the sides of the bottle and when im putting the teat on etc the formula is still spilling out xxx
