I'm needing some ideas for prettifying jars. This year we decided to make preserves like jam and chutney to give to people for christmas. However, we used recycled jars so they're all shapes and sizes, some have writing on the lid and I couldn't get the glue from previous labels off some of them either. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to make them look attractive? It needs to be a cheap option though or it defeats the purpose lol.

what about getting bits of Christmasy fabric and cutting it out for the top of the jar

kind of like this https://sewing.about.com/od/freeprojects/ss/carjarlidsvisua.htm

you could print off your own labels to cover over the glue etc - use clipart etc with christmassy images. you could wrap green/red/ other christmassy ribbon around the jars.

I'd go for making them look really countryfied. Cut up a tea towel into squares to cover the lids and tie there with twine. Make your own labels for the front.

My mum did it last year. She made tiny hampers because she was really strapped for cash, so she made a jar of chutney, got some cheese and one of those mini bottles of red wine for each hamper. Worked out less than a fiver a gift but was so nice!

Was just coming on to say about a circle of gingham fabric and an elasctic band! Then even if you buy plain white address labels and write on them what is in the jar and the date etc.

Fabric and a nice ribbon are always nice and you can get scraps for a low cost. You can also paint the jars.
