I know the guidelines, but how do YOU make YOUR bottles? :flower:

Trick I've learnt when we have another is 1/2 fresh boiled water, put powder in to kill the germs then top off with cooled water. I used to do fast chill back of fridge then re-warm. Discovered half and half is a lot faster! Will just be cooling water in a sterile jug next time!

Heya. Loadsa interesting info and opinions in the above thread! xxx

I fill up 6 or so bottles at a time with boiled water, let them cool and add power when needed. I used a bottle warmer to heat it up a tad but now make the bottles with 1oz less water and when needed boil the kettle and add 1oz water then power as its quicker than a bottle warmer :)

I have read loads about powder having to be added to hot water to kill bugs etc (seriously powder is full of bugs that have to be killed? not sure about that myself) but I have never done it this way with either of mine and when I queried it with MW she just rolled her eyes and said what i was doing was fine.

We cool boiled water in a jug (in our case a Pyrex glass one) then put this in a sterile water water (just a freebie one from Brita) which we use to make up his bottles. When ds wants warmer water for his milk, we have water in the kettle that has been boiled and just turn the kettle on for a few seconds (about 10-15 seconds) to warm it then use this to make his bottles.

I know it's not specifically suggested, but it was our coping method and worked for us.

Now that ds is older, we just make sure that we have a Thermos of warm water when we go out. That way he can have either warm milk, or warm food effectively on tap.

Thanks everyone, We are now trying half boiled and cooled and half hot out of a flask to make the bottles fresh. Seems to be working great, not boiling kettle all the time and not having to wait for things to heat up/cool down :)

If lo was having a 6oz feed. I'd put 3oz of boiled water in bottles then put in fridge, then when needed id add boiled water to it 3oz and then add powder, itd b perfect temp then. But when she was new born I just used ready to feeds as found it easier

I make up 24 hours worth of bottles at a time. I use Gerber Pure water (a gallon is only like $1.50 and I'm willing to pay that to not have to mess with boiling the tap water lol). I also use the Dr. Brown's formula mixing pitcher. That thing is AWESOME, leaves not one single clump behind, and then I just pour into the bottles and refrigerate right away.
