Just wanted to give a shout out to people about keeping a close eye on their energy accounts. Our dual fuel account got raised by the company late last year. We pay direct debit and they advised to increase our payment by £50 a month. We did as we were scared of getting into debt, but have really really struggled paying this on top of everything rising in cost recently. However I have been told now about managing the account online by a friend, so have set up and low and behold find out the scum have over £500 of our money just sitting on the account earning them interest!!! Be aware guys! As an expectant family we have much better things that money could be going towards. So since we know prices vary etc we have left a little on the account as a "just incase" and requested a few hundred to be sent back to us. I just can't believe we have been struggling with bills and they don't have some facility to let you know that your money is accruing. I will of course be checking regularly now I have set up online management of my bill but just wanted to let you all know about this to make you think, you may have some money somewhere like this that is YOUR money while these companies are keeping hold of it and earning interest on it. Worth checking out if you can get some dosh back. Good luck x

That's ridiculous!! Glad your getting some back though :)

It is so worth remembering to check up on these things. We pay direct debit as we signed up when an offer was on for each year you pay by DD they credit you with £100 at the end of the year, but this hasn't even been in that period we are still about 6 months off until our next yearly credit. Thinking the money we have asked for back will help us pay to decorate baby's room as we aren't eligible for grants or anything and the cost of everything gets so much! I have of course been squirrelling away items etc at each payday so we are well on our way, have cot and other big things but you forget the cost of flooring, paint etc so thinking thats what this money will go towards :happydance:

This experience has put me on a frenzy to find all of the best deals out there, so have been looking at things like broadband/phone packages, and the deal I have found so far (not committed yet) will save us £258 per year compared to our current deal. I'm wondering if pregnancy hormones have made me more savvy with deals! :haha: Sitting going through everything with my calculator. ha!

This is what i do. No way would i do direct debit for that reason. They can take it and sit on it. Plus i cant guarantee that the money will be there at the time they decide to take it.
