Hi

I am in the very early stages of pregnancy I'm only 4wks 4 days and have only been at my new job for 3 weeks so don't know where I will stand with regards to maternity pay and appointments etc ?

Ideally I don't want to tell work until after my 12 week scan when I know everything is ok I feel if we announce it again something bad will happen again we haven't even told our families !!

I just dont know where I stand with regards to maternity pay and whether in December I'll qualify for it or anything ?

Have a look on Gov.uk they tend to have the answers. I believe you must have been in CONTINUOUS employment for 26 weeks at your 25th week of pregnancy. Not entirely sure if it has to be same employer.

The gov website is saying I won't qualify for maternity pay through work but could get it through the government. Do some employers work differently for example I could qualify for maternity pay through work or do they stick with what the gov website says ?

I feel so scared to tell work !!

Xxx

You should get maternity allowance from the government at least. It's usually about £138 per week. That goes up to £139 after baby is born (don't spent the extra all at once!)

Probably SMA rather than SMP. I think you claim it through JobCentre rather than work. Its ages since I looked into it all. Im not entitled to either this time around as Im a student. Luckily, my bursary pay a maternity scheme (phew), but its not much....maybe only a couple of hundred a month. I think if you look into it, there will be other benefits you can claim if you cant get SMA.
