Just wondered who qualifies when it comes to getting the one-off maternity grant payment?

Is it just people recieving income support etc or do they count people on other low incomes?

My OH earns around 14,000 a year and I work a bit but I've only been working for a couple of months and only get around 500 a month. Would we qualify or not? xx

im also wondering the same thing hun.... its very confusing :S
i have heard through once you get CTC and WTC when LO is here it can mean that you qualify for the grant after LO is born... not sure how true that is though
we are on what they consider a low income aswell, but are not recieving any benefits.
hope somone can help us both :)

Yeah it is confusing!

I read that 'if you are receiving tax credits then you can qualify'

me and OH will receive tax credits but obviously not at 29 weeks pregnant when you're supposed to get the grant! xx

i think you have 3 months after LO is born to apply for the grant aswell

xx

Usually of you work you won't get anything.
You can claim up to 3 months after baby is born if you then start receiving child tax credits at a rate higher than the family element (£545pa) or the disability element of working tax credit.
It would be worth calling tax credits to put in a claim or ask for your existing claim to be based on this years income as you might then be eligible, once baby is here.
Best not to wait for the tax credits reply as you only have 3 months. you can put in a claim and ask them to review it if they refuse as you would hopefully by then know how much tax credits you will get.
