I've always been 'forced' to take mat leave at 29 weeks due to pregnancy related issues this time around technically I'm on annual leave for a good bit as not signed off work am I correct in thinking I can decide when my mat leave will start? ie 37/38 weeks?

however, should baby come early again before said start of mat leave do I automatically go onto mat leave once baby is born or can it still kick in at 37/38 weeks?

it's a mind boggler lol any advice appreciated xx

Once baby is born then your maternity starts. I also think the company can only force you to go on maternity leave if you are sick in the last 4 weeks of pregnancy.

In my last pregnancy I was in hospital from 21 weeks. The company had agreed to give me full pay until my maternity leave started so I put my maternity to start at 36 weeks. It kicked in once the girls were born instead.

Hope that helps xx

in my work any pregnancy related 'sickness' that puts you off work after 29 weeks you need to take mat leave. So if I deliver at say 33 weeks whilst still technically using annual leave the remaining holidays are cancelled and my mat leave starts x

Yes unfortunately and it's the company's discretion whether they allow you to carry them to the next year.

Looks like from this year we will be able to carry holidays over. According to this your company shouldn't have been making you take maternity at 29 weeks either although SSP could affect your SMP so in some instances it's better going on maternity. Found this link.

Mine was the same as 25weeker,
I wanted to stop at 32weeks, use 4weeks holiday and start maternity at 36weeks, I stopped at 32weeks but had my baby at 33weeks so my last3 weeks holiday were cancelled and maternity leave started at 33weeks instead.

I've been able to carry my Holidays over and this year I have 12 weeks to use :) plus I was also informed that as of this year employees on maternity are now entitled to public holiday allowance so still figuring out how many of those I have!

Hope you get it sorted, it really is mind boggling!

I was forced to go on mat leave when Alexander was born and my remaining holidays for the year were paid to me. I didn't think you could be forced to start your leave until 36/37 weeks all being well x

depends on your work Sam I'm a team leader (lower management) so looked into it xx
