I think I’ve got this right – after much searching on dwp and direct gov sites, I think that as long as I work at least one day into my ‘qualifying week’ (the 15th week before due week, so 25 weeks pg), I can leave my job (hand in notice) and they still would need to pay me SMP.

Is this right, in laymans terms? It’s just a normal office job, been there 2.5 years, get paid over the minimum etc. I just want to be armed with the facts – our HR dept is lame!

I’ve worked out the difference between working until I qualify for SMP and just leaving before I qualify and getting MA, is about £1500 which is a lot of difference!

If anyone can confirm or correct, that’d be great! :flower:

Yes, but I think u need to work the full week. As long as you qualify you will get SMP regardless of being in employment or not.

Yes, I agree with Abz, I would have thought you need to work the whole week in order for it to be counted as a qualifying week.
