I've been googling to see what sort of size flats are for newborns, because the ones I have now fit my heavy 3 year old, I can't see them going on a teeny newborn.

Does anyone have any and can let me know how big they are? I have newborn prefolds but interested in flat nappy/diaper measurements pretty please. I am sewing my own and can't picture how small newborns are in my minds eye. I have short kids at average sort of weights.

Might be a silly question as I don't know if flats even come in different sizes, I've only seen them about 70cm x 70cm.

Could you not use a newborn (size 1) disposable as a template?! This may be a really silly suggestion 😳 so apologies in advance if it is.

IMO 50cm terry squares are best for newborns. Just the right size to fit at birth, and will last as a nappy until around 6 months, but you can use after that as inserts and boosters

Thanks very much! I was thinking about 45cm squared so I wasn't too far off. I'm not doing terries as I line dry and they go hard as a rock, but brushed cotton/flannelette.
