I started a post about my water breaking on Monday so this is an update to that. So I got up at 4:45 to go to the bathroom and I felt my water break in a gush and then multiple gushes after that. I called the Dr. and was told to head to the hospital. I wasnt having contractions so we took our time getting things together and got there around 6:30. We got checked into my suite and waited for the doctor to come in and check me. At around 9:00 she found that I was 1cm, 80% effaced so she had me start on a pitocin drip. Then the contractions really kicked in at about 2 mins apart and as they increased the drip they got more and more intense. The Dr. came back around 4:30 and I was only 3 cm, which was so disappointing. I had been up for about 12 hrs and having active contractions for 6 hours, I was hurting and tired so I asked for an epidural. She wanted me to be further but agreed and I couldnt wait for him to come. I was all for going natural but I could not believe the pain and at a couple points in time I got this intense pain in my side that didnt go away and having contractions on top of that, it made me cry. That all went away when I got the epidural, I was more scared of it in my mind but the anesthesiologist was incredible and I had no problems.
I have to say being a FTM I had no idea of the entire process. The Dr. doesnt tell you a whole lot and you basically learn as you go. I never thought Id have issues with not dilating so when she checked me at 7:00 and I was still only 3cm I was frustrated. She thought I would be able to start pushing my 2:00am but nope! I started to feel the contractions and getting intense pain in my bum so the nurse kept upping my epidural but it didnt stop hurting to the anesthesiologist came back and gave me a 2.5x dose of meds and then I was comfortable again. I finally fell asleep at around 1 and the Dr. checked me at 3:00am and I was about 7cm and she said shes be back so I fell asleep again. Around 4:45 I woke up and was feeling strong contractions again and getting a lot of pain/pressure in my vagina. The nurse checked me and said I was ready to start pushing and had me do a push before she even tried to wake my husband. That really ticked me off; hello dont you think he wants to be aware of whats going on!!? So at 5:00am about 24 hrs from when my water broke, I started to push and 20 mins later my precious baby girl came into this world. Megan Rose was born at 5:20am weighing 9lbs 1oz and 19.5long. They totally under estimated her weight the week before saying she was about 7-7.5 lbs. I gained my weight all in the belly and at that point I was up 22 lbs so it had to have been all her.
It was an incredible experience but so glad that its over. I did end up tearing a little but with everything else going on its not a big deal. For FTMs that are waiting to have their little ones I would advise to not worry about all the things that could go wrong but to focus on the experience and meeting your baby. Sure you can ask a lot of questions and get advice but every labor is different and you should try to enjoy YOUR labor and not try to compare it to what someone told you. No, I didnt end of having her the same day and Princess Kate but she did come on the exact day I calculated from when I ovulated.
Heres my little love bug with her huge chunky cheeks that I love to kiss and smooch!!![kiss  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/kiss1.gif)
She's incredibly good and sleeps most the day. She did have some trouble nursing at first but now that my milk has come in she's doing great.![Cloud 9 :cloud9: :cloud9:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/cloud9.gif)
