My favorite family member, my grandfather was named Merlin. I love his name but I would probably sign my kid up for a lifetime of wizard jokes and teasing by using Merlin itself. Thoughts?

What you do think about he variation Merle? It's very country but I like that.

Id also associate Merlin with the wizard. That's he only time I've ever heard the name. Since its a family name and you want to use it maybe as a middle? How do you pronounce Merle? I've only heard it in relation to dog colors like blue merle and my dogs coat which is a chocolate merle.

i love merlin! my friends dh is called that and he never got teased. if you like it, go for it. their generation probably won't know about the wizard reference anyway imo. x

cant say Merlin with a straight face

I lauged at Merle first time I heard it (but I think thats because I automatically though Merlin) but now I actually really like it

merle is pronounced like pearl (m-earl)

As PPs said I'd do Merlin as a middle.

I'd do Merlin as a mn, myself. I love the connection with your grandpa but I agree that it's be a not-so-great first name. I disagree with the pp who said kids won't recognize the wizard name. My 8yo would know it in a heart beat.

I personally associate Merle about 50/50 with country music and The Walking Dead, but that show won't be around forever and likely will have faded away long before these babies are old enough to know about it.

I really do not like Merle as makes me think of a dogs colour! Lol but thats me being silly.

I had a friend at school called Merlin and he was never picked on but we did call him merv.

Oh I love the name Merlin and have always wanted to call a baby boy this...I don't think my oh agrees though!
