Hattie has started messing with her bottles the past few days, some times she will take it then stop at 90ml and mess about - other days she will hardly suck on the teat but still wants the milk if you dribble it into her mouth she will happily take it. He bottle at 10am took almost an hour because I literally had to drip feed her, BUT she wanted it. She never pushes it away. It's almost like she can't be bothered to suck!

I put some bonjella on her gums incase that was the issue - we've started weaning her slowly, she has a spoonful of porridge. She is a big girl - was 19lb 9oz at 17 weeks.

Does anybody else's little one do this? Soooo frustrating

The only time my ds did this was usually either teething or the milk wasn't coming out fast enough and we needed to go up a teet flow size. Xxx

Thanks Dolly84, I did think teething as she's quite dribbly but put Bonjella on her gums before one bottle & it didn't make any difference. She uses the Tommee Tippee 'Variflow' teat which should mean she gets as much as she sucks.

What did you do with your little one?
Thanks

The variflow teats were never fast enough for my DS1, he did similar things to your little girl and still had terrible wind with them as well. The fast flow teats made a lot of difference, he was using those by 4 months and was much better after that.

Thanks dom85; I didn;t realise the fast ones would produce more than the Variflow - will try those and perhaps something stronger than Bonjella. xx

If it is teething, then yes, she will just eat a lot more slowly and will be on and off. Nothing you can or need to do really, just offer her as much as she wants. If she doesn't want any more, take a break, offer it again later. A bottle will be fine at room temp for 2 hours so you can go back to it as much as you need in that time. It's also a good excuse just to sit down for a bit yourself. If you think it's teething, I would try calpol or the teething powders and steer clear of the gels. They actually can numb the tongue as well as the teeth, which makes it hard for them to latch on to the teat, because they literally can't feel it well. If it's not seeming to help anyway, I wouldn't bother.

If you have started weaning, it could also be that she's feeling full enough to not really be that hungry, but as she's so little and it's probably not much, you would hope that isn't the case. But if you're offering milk before any solids, then she should still be able to fill up on as much milk as she wants. My guess would be more that it's teething or just not feeling well, which you just sorta have to ride out.

Yeah what others have said, the vari flow one wasn't coming out fast enough for my ds, so switched to the fast flow and that was it. X
