My doc has just put me on 1000mg metformin i dont quite understand how this helps im a type 1 diabetic i didnt know they used it with type one if it doesnt work in next 3 cycles i can get clomid but im confused as to why the wait just wondering if anyone knows more about it or heard of it working

I've never been on metformin before but from what I understand the drug is suppose to help stabilize your insulin, which in turns help regulate your periods, which helps with ovulation tracking, control weight loss/gain if its an issue etc. I could be wrong but that's what I've read about metformin and a close gf of mine is on it for PCOS.

I don't know the ins and outs but my best friend has PCOS didn't have periods and was prescribed metformin and it worked first cycle! Her little girl is now 7 months! Good luck xxx

It will help balance out your insulin. That in itself may help your body to ovulate on it's own. If not, the clomid will give it an extra push. Some docs immediately prescribe them both, but no need to over-medicate if the metformin will do the trick on its own.

Hi Hayley,

Im on metformin 1500 daily and 100mg clomid days 2-6 cycle #2 of 4. I have PCOS and my doctor told me to take metformin for 6 months before starting clomid as a lot of women will ovulate just with the Metformin alone.

when I started the clomid in December I has a perfect period bang on date in January, February & March however now im on the clomid they are a bit all over the place again.

My Doc said that clomid is supposed to work even better along slide metformin although apart from having to dash to the loo after a cider I dont really see any difference!

I have lost nearly a stone since on them however have been dieting too so cant say for sure whether its down to metformin or dieting :/

Good Luck x

Usually when i watch my bloods i put weight on like im talking 8 kgs in 4 days i went fro. 60 kg to 82 kg in less than month this time since taking metform and having good bloods im from 60 kg to 63 i think its helping keep it down this time
Tho i havent o this month yet cd 17 which has got me wondering as i usualy do every month cd11 to 14 last 13 months

Hi, my doctor also just put me on 1000mg of met. No mention of Clovis though since my insurance won't cover it. But he seems confident that the met alone will helpy insulin resistance and balance out my low progesterone levels. I've only been on it for a week and a half though and aside from running to the bathroom every five minutes I can't say I really see a difference. But still waiting for AF to show up so I can get onto the next cycle which will hopefully be our month. I suggest just stay on it as I read it can take up to threes months to make a difference. Good luck I will be stalking this page to see if anyone else has had success with just metformin alone.

Hi, I was given Metformin roughly a year ago and was told to have it for few weeks for weight loss (I have PCOS), honestly speaking for me i didnt feel it worked but for some I have heard it worked well.
