I just started taking 1000 mg of metformin about a week ago, and i was fine until today when my face turned bright red and felt like it was on fire. It subsided throughout the day but happened again when i took my second dose today. i know this can be a side effect of Metformin but i wondering if anybody has had a problem like this and does it go away? ill be calling the dr tomorrow to ask him. id really hate to stop the Metformin after only a week.

Hi there,
I am also on 1000g a day, I have a consent headache.

I'm on 1700mg a day but only ever get stomach pains an hour or two after taking them. Headaches seem to be constant but I've never had the red face... I've just had a look at the info sheet I was given with my tablets. It mentions a skin rash as a very rare side effect, 1 in 10,000. It also says if you notice anything that's not listed on the info sheet, then contact your doctor. Skin rash is the only thing I can think of... not sure if that's any help :S

thanks for your responses. i did not take my morning dose of the met... im waiting to hear from the dr in case he advises me to stop taking the met. ive had no other effects from it except the red burning face

Had you ate when you took your tab kat?? It happens to me occasionally when my blood sugar is a little low, eating smaller meals, but more often, and not too many carbs seems to work best on met x

Sparkly...now that you mentioned that i was completely off my daily routine yesterday and did not eat what/how i normally eat. when your blood sugar is low does your face feel likes its on fire? the burning was so bad for me that i had to sit most of the day with a cold towel on my face. of course the dr hasnt gotten back to me yet...

Well mine starts as more of a red flush, on my cheeks, but will spread to my chest and neck if I leave it too long without eating, i've never had to sit with a cold towel on my face though, you should defo speak to your doc about that x

i just spoke with the dr and he said to stop taking the met. im a little disappointed because i really wanted to give the met a try. oh well...
