I was just diagnosed with a pregnancy of an undetermined location. Due to concerns over an ectopic, they gave me methotrexate. They told me I'd have to wait 3 months to resume TTC. Has anyone else been through this? Has anyone been given the green light to start trying earlier or is 3 months the norm?

I am so sorry for your loss :( I had a miscarriage last year in Feb and since they didn't see anything when I had an u/s they decided to treat it like an ectopic pg. So I was given the methotrexate shot and told to wait for at least 3 months (because the shot depletes your folic acid stores) but my HCG levels went up one week after the start of my m/c instead of down so then they decided to treat it like it was a partial molar pg. I then was told to wait at least 6 months before trying again.

I only waited a couple of months myself because of my age and also I didn't really believe that it was a partial molar pg. I just decided to continue taking my prenatal vitamins with folic acid and ate foods with folate or folic acid in them to help restore my folic acid stores. Unfortunately it has been over a year and a half since my m/c and I still haven't conceived again

I think only you can decide what is right for you but in my case I couldn't bear the thought of waiting half a year before ttc again! I really hope that it doesn't take you long to get your rainbow baby :)

Hey hunny. I'm sorry about your loss. :hugs: From my understanding, it really isn't important the exact amount of time you wait, but it is important that your hCG levels get back down to 0, and then you have one more AF before TTC. The main thing is that you have a bleed after your hCG reaches 0.

Whilst this quote is true, after being treated with methotrexate you should try and keep to the standard 3 month advice. The methotrexate affects the building blocks that build healthy DNA. Obviously there are people that have gone against this advice and have gone on to have a healthy baby but the risk is there.

It's a different situation but I was on methotrexate for arthritis I was told it was extremely important not to get pregnant while on it due to birth defects and miscarriage, it can effect DNA, I would wait.
