I really like the name Mia but just wondering if it's short for anything, in otherwords can any other name be shortened to Mia?

(also, what do you think?)xx

I know it can be short for Mia, but I also have a cousin named Maria who goes by Mia. But if you don't like either of those, I think it's cute by itself!

i know a baby called Amelia who gets called Mia :)

mia from the film the princess diaries full name is Amelia and her NN is Mia. if i were to think of Mia as a NN i would think of Amelia but Mia is also known as a Name in itself nowadays. xx

I like Mia, but im biased because thats one of the names on my short list lol :)

I love Mia but DH wouldn't have it as he's Italian :(

p.s I think Ameila is such a pretty name it would almost be shame to shorten it, but that's just my opinion.

It is a beautiful name, I agree. But I love the idea of Mia atleast being our pet name for her :)

thanks everyone, when I get to my computer I will press the lote 'thankyou' button for you all! I've not done it yet purely because it takes forever on iPhone!

I love the name maria too but my friends daughter is called that so it's a no no. Any other suggestions and opinions more than welcome!!xx

Yeah, i have heard Amia -- I really like all three: Amia, Amelia, or just Mia -- very pretty!

I love it, it was one of the names we had decided on for a girl x

Mia was our first pick for this baby but then saw the predictions for it to become popular- I love it but just did not want a name that was common!

Mia can be a name by itself or short for another.
I think mostly it's for Amelia or Amalia, but I also think it can work for Miranda and Matilda too. Basically any name that starts with M or has an 'ia' somewhere in it, I think it would work.

Mia is very pretty. You can just use Mia you don't have to use Amelia or Maria. And there are lots of pretty middle names it can go with. ;)

I like Mia so I say thumbs up! In my family we called my mom Mia and my dad Pia as nicknames growing up so I have a special connection to it. I will say I know of 4 Mia's born in the last year and a half though so definitely growing in popularity.
