Last night at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, Michael Jackson was represented by a hologram of himself throwing out some iconic moves - but was it really him?

I love Michael Jackson. I love holograms when they are done well.

But my office is divided on this one. i dont think its him....

The performance was at risk in the first place due to a lawsuit, perhaps they chose to use an impersonator in the end.

I cant see the video because of a copyright claim :nope:

They must have changed it

I'm also disgusted with my title spelling

All the videos have been blocked by copyright :grr:

I'm gonna go hunt out a video. I've heard a lot of controversy about it. x

What do you mean is it really him? I thought he was dead?

You know, i want to reply but i dont even know how to explain it myself

I think it all depends on whether you think he is indeed guilty of perversion in regards to children or not.

I for one do, and don't understand people's continued infatuation with him. I immediately thought of his victims when I saw the "performance".... I realize he was an icon for a long time and will always have a following but think bringing him back via hologram for public performances is just too much. Beyond the ethics and controversy surrounding him personally, I think it undermines the true spirit of a live performance.

I wonder who else will follow suit now and which long since gone artists will be exploited beyond the grave....

(As far as whether the hologram was his body being portrayed in the hologram - they already said it was another man's body that they used to film the dance sequence and afterward they added Jackson's head.)

The more i think about this the more I get confused :haha:
So the idea, was to bring a hologram of Michael to the show.
But, surely they would need footage of him performing the song - and there wasn't, of course....

I've read, possibly, it was a impersonator with michaels face digitally imposed.

What even is the point of that :dohh:

My intention was never to create this thread for a debate on whether Michael was guilty or not. (He was found not guilty on all counts)
I don't see what it has to do with the creation of a hologram performance, I'd rather it stayed lighthearted.

Not possibly - that's exactly what it was!

The following day the creators were all over the news circuits explaining that's exactly how the sequence was created.

I think, i could be wrong, but Micheals hologram wasn't the first, i think Snoop Dog brought Tupac "back" using hologram technology x

That's true.

And I think what they're saying is that Jacksons wasn't even a hologram in the true sense of the word. But the idea certainly isn't new and has been used before both for live and passed musicians and even politicians so they can make appearances in multiple locations at the same time

Yep - Elvis, ODB, and Tupac to name a few. They are popular for living artists too - I saw one at Kelly Clarkson (wasnt amazingly impressed but still entertaining) and Lady Gaga's support act is completely hologram, Hatsune Miku, who has a huge following in Japan - she doesnt even have a "real" voice, she sings lyrics from fans using a Vocaloid software. Its really interesting!
