wondered if anyone's midwife appointments included listening to babies heartbeat? both my 2 appointments I haven't had it checked. Kings College hospital in london need to a shake up, I feel like just a one of many files to them, and they forgot to tell me i'm rhesus negative and 'O' blood group until I asked them at 14 weeks!!!

Yeah they check the hb ever since 10 weeks for me. Maybe ask them to do it next time?

I haven't had it checked so far, only seen it on the scan.

I've got a blood test at 16 weeks which is about the time when they usually check.

I've been able to hear it using my doppler at home which has been the best £29 I've ever spent!

My MW listened to babys heartbeat at my 16 week appointment hun xx

Mine Checked At 12 Weeks But Couldnt Find It, So She Didnt Check Again Till 16 Weeks :)

thanks people, i've not got my next midwife appointment until when i'm 18 weeks, so I think i'll go to the maternal assessment unit and ask for a heartbeat check. I depend on my stomach flutters to let me know baby's fine, and when I don't feel a thing for a couple of days, I get concerned. But dopler would drive me crazy in case I couldn't find hearbeat sometimes, so won't be using that..

They often don't try to listen to the heartbeat until 16-18 weeks as it can be hard to find until then and cause undue worry if they can't. My midwife tried to find my twins heartbeats at 16 weks and couldn't, they haven't tried since, but I am having weekly scans, so know all is well.

She didnt at the 12 week one. She did at the 16 week one though, and i havent seen her since then but I imagine they will do when I go at 28 weeks.

My midwife found my baby's heartbeat at 10, seeing her soon for 16 wk check and she'll probably liste in too.
I also would'nt be without my doppler it's great! Haven't had any problems finding hb, just takes time and patience.

My grandmother has a heart condition that can cause sudden death in young adults, and when I told them this, they wrote in my notes that the baby's heartbeat had to be checked at each appointment. I think they're worried that the baby may have it, when the risk was that I would have it. I was supposed to have an ECG to check my status, but they're more worried about the baby, even though it apparently doesn't affect you until you're in your teens. Ahh well.

As for normal people, I think you're supposed to have the HB checked at each appointment, but I'm sure sometimes it gets forgotten. As for your rhesus negative and blood group; they don't have to tell you much unless there's a problem. I had to read through the notes myself to find out that information, and then low and behold I read that I had an anterior placenta nobody bothered to tell me about. It explained why I hadn't felt any flutters :dohh:

Ive had the heartbeat checked at both 18wks and 24wks they should be checking it at this stage hun at each appointment and taking your measurements. xx

Mines hasn't.
I've had ... 3 scans - one at 6 weeks, one at 16 where I seen the hearbeat and one at 19 where I seen the heartbeat again.
However, my MW appointments at my health cantre (all 3 of them) I've had nothing but blood taken on all 3 accounts, BP checked once and given 3 urine samples.
Nothing related to heartbeats at all :/

my midwifes dont check the heartbeat til 25 weeks hun x

I go to a Dr. And Ive been checked every appt since 11 weeks. I also get urine protein tests, and he checks over pretty much my entire body. Im very pleased with my my doctor.

Hi Hun, I've had my lo's heartbeat checked since my 16 week appointment. They also check my urine and bp at each appointment too.

I think it may depend on your doctor's/hospital policy, but I would ask for it to be checked at your next appointment.
