I had my 20 wk check today , my placenta Is anterior which I knew but is also lowish , 3.1cm ? And I was also told being Bub number 5 I will be closely monitored during labour due to the possibility of a lot of bleeding . Midwife said placenta should move higher up as bubs grows so fingers x
On the plus side I'm measuring spot on and heard bubs heartbeat for first time :)

3.1cm from the cervix? Or 3.1cm over the cervix? I have a low lying placenta. It was fully covering the cervix but moved a bit at 17 weeks, which did cause some heavy bleeding. I had two nights in hospital and all has been fine since.
Most do move up out the way - about 90% move up.

Generally the placenta moves up our of the way. Mine did with my daughter, now this time at my 20 week scan my placenta was only 1cm from my cervix so they'll re-scan me at 36 weeks to check it has moved.

3.1cm away from cervix is not bad - like others have said, most will move (after the lower segment of the uterus forms around 24 weeks), unless they start off much lower than that (mine was 1cm from cervix at 15 weeks and then completely covering cervix at 17 weeks, so not likely).
Lovely that you finally got to hear the heartbeat :)

Thanks ladies , I feel better now and after googling 3.1cm isn't bad at all . Xx
