Miscarriage and Depo

Hi Ladies,

Don't really want to be scaremongering... just looking to see if there is any correlation here.

I've been reading some back posts, and it seems that there are a lot of ladies that have miscarried after coming off of depo-provera jabs. Is this just a coincidence?

I had been on depo for 5 years. I had my last jab March 2008. My periods came back in August 2009, and I had 4 periods prior to conceiving (6 months after last jab wore off). I had a MMC in March this year, I was 12w3d preggo, but baby only measured 6w4d.

I'm worried that the depo has permanently screwed up my body.... is this a justified fear? Or am I just clutching at straws for something to blame?

How have other people found TTC, and carrying their pregnancies after depo provera?

So sorry for your loss hun, can't give any advice, sorry, but didn't want to just read and run.

I have never been on the pill for more than a couple of months and that was ages ago now and still m/c. I guess everyone is different and perhaps it may have some effect although I'm certain if there were known increased risks they would not allow it to be used. I know it's hard hun to not think what if but sometimes I don't think we're meant to know why.

I would certainly speak to your GP about this though for your own piece of mind if nothing else.

Hey pennypoptart, sorry for your loss sweetie. I think we all try to blame something other then nature being so cruel.
As for the Depo, my sister got pregnant on the depo shot(while she was actively taking it every 3 months like prescribed for a year and half) and she went on to have a beautiful baby girl. I'm not saying it doesn't affect peoples bodies differently.
Just goes to show you that contraceptives aren't the safest things out there. Not sure if this helped.. Thinking of you
