Hey all,

I am very cautiously pregnant after a MMC at 12 weeks in July. The baby measured 8+6. Obviously i'm freaking out and trying to be happy and positive about it but also protecting myself by not being too optimistic!

Just wondering if anyone's got any stats to reassure me? I'm not considered high risk after 1 mc due to chromosomal abnormalities and a healthy DD but i can't help thinking it COULD all go wrong...

Thanks all and congrats on your BFPs!!

Thank you kittycat it feels like a lifetime ago we we're miscarry ing. How are you getting on? X

The only stat that I know of that I found somewhat comforting is that the chance of a MC for a woman who had never had one is around 20%. The chance of a woman who has had 1 MC having another MC is also around 20%, so the odds are just as much in our favour as they are anyone else! Plus that 20% figure is based a lot on very early MCs and chemicals, the further along you go the more the % chance decreases.
It can be hard thinking all is going well though after a MMC isn't it? I almost didn't trust my own body as it hadn't let me know, but did take comfort in the fact that I read somewhere that a MMC (particularly later on in 1st tri) is usually nothing to do with the woman's ability to conceive or carry a child and so highly unlikely to happen again. But I have no idea where I read that or if it's true, so I chose to believe it lol!
I just can't wait for my private scan on December 20th so I can know it's all ok!

Munchkin - I read that 2 consecutive mc's are 5% likelihood and 3 consecutive is 1% likelihood. So, back-to-back the odds are low, it seems odd given how many ladies we know who have experienced this, seems higher than that number. But perhaps it's because we all have a tendancy to test early and see more losses???

I cannot find the original stats for the numbers above though, just read it second hand.

Munchkin - stats don't change until you have 3 consecutive miscarriages. At that point a person goes from about 20% chance of miscarriage to about 30% and the stats will continue to change with each following miscarriage. Linny is exactly right about the chance of two and/or three consecutive miscarriages.

If you are over 35 than your chance of miscarriage is 25-30% and again, does not change until 3 or more miscarriages.

Keep in mind as well, the studies that these stats are all based on were done in the 40's and were performed on women from the same social class and region. Many doctors are throwing the numbers out the window now b/c they are not accurate. Most likely our chances are better than what these numbers show.

The testing early vs waiting for missed period gives more a chance to see a BFP go negative.

Hanging in. I had a CP In mid Sept. Knew right away I was pregnant as I had signs and then few days later got few faints. All my cycles have been under 30 days since July 15 MC though so that is HUGE. As I had very odd periods. Feel closer to it being possible but trying to hang back about TTC. Just entering period and sex dates and no more LH testing. I do have a good feeling this is my month as we have been horny:P lmao. well more like husband has as I am always willing he is usually the few times a month type!

Thank you ladies, I love those stats! I why'll sticky thus thread into my phone for the bad days . Kittycat great about your cycles regulating, can't be long now before you're joining us xx
