I was induced at 39 weeks and 1 day due to painful kidney stones. We arrived at 7am to the OB floor and were taken straight to a labor and delivery suite. The nurses of course got me all hooked up the monitors and started an IV so that they could give me the pitocin when it was time. The nurse checked me and said that i was at 2 cm (which i had been for over a week). The doctor came in to speak to us, he checked me (he also said i was at 2) and then broke my water. Because the "waters" didnt gush, he went ahead and put the scalp monitor on the baby to ensure an accurate heartrate. Everything looked great and i started contracting every 1-2 minutes on my own, but the pitocin was started because my contractions werent strong enough. I was okay for a while and had a couple visitors and then the pain got to be too much, so they started an epidural (which wasnt so bad). Baby was still doing great. I took short nap and about 12 pm sent my husband to go get him so lunch. The pain came back on one side after he left, so they came to redose my epidural, which caused the baby's heartrate to drop. They had me flip back and forth trying to get the heart rate up and also put an oxygen mask on me. My poor husband walked back in to the room to find 4 nurses and the doctor working on me. They got it back up and everything was fine until it I was fully dilated and they came back to give me pain medicine (due to the kidney stone). The baby's heartrate dropped again and this time they couldnt get it back up. The doctor tried to help get her out with the vacuum, but it wouldnt work because she had so much hair. I was having trouble pushing, and according to my husband the doctor was beginning to look nervous. Everyone was scared that he was about to say i needed a stat c section. At the last moment, i was able to push hard enough to get her out. My husband was able to cut the cord, and she was placed on my chest. We tried to breastfeed, but she wouldnt have it. The nurses got her cleaned up while the doctor placed stitches for the incision that he had to make. Miss Marianne Elizabeth Osborne was born at 4:08pm on 12/6/12. She weighed 6 pounds and 2 ounces. She was 19 inches long and perfect in every way. I have attached a couple of pictures.
