how close to expressing a bottle can i feed my baby? i usually nurse him 15 min a side. i want to start giving 1 bottle a day but i am worried my baby will want to eat straight after expressing and i wont have enough milk.

umm depends on how much you express but u will never run out of milk hun,ur body makes enough to meet babs demands.if he still seems unsatisfied i would pop him on the side u expressed from as the other side will have the colostum so he wont get just milk.expressing is an art form though!u must keep at it

I find I can feed right away after expressing if my babies hungry because even with a top of the line pump it's still not as good as getting all the milk out as baby.

i agree with luckyme, there always seems to be milk left in there that my pump doesnt get to.
otherwise i tend to re-fill within an hour or two.

I would say if you're worried about it express from the side that baby didnt use last time then feed baby on the other side.

wow im glad i found this thread!

Ladies my little princess is 2 weeks old today... she is breast feeding well but i want to start expressing for when we take her out but am so confused about the whole thing.

I have bought an avent electric pump, and basically need advice on when to express, how long for etc etc??

Can you make up your first bottle by expressing an amount over a day or two and then just before/after giving that bottle express the next one? Might save you worrying over whether you'll still have enough left.

is it okay to fill a bottle by expressing over 2 days?

Hi cupcake, yeah you can use milk pumped from separate days in the same feed. Agreeing with the others on your previous que. There always seems to be milk that the pump won't be able to express so don't worry much. You can however try to gt an least an hour between feedings and pumping sessions.
