Hello everyone,
Just wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice. I got made redundant yesterday because of lack of money at my work place, i leave in 1 months time. I went to the citezens advice and they said i am not entitled to any money to cover bills, rent etc. I pay £450 rent per month not including council tax, gas, electric, water. Still have to pay for food..rest of the stuff for the baby. My partner earns £220 per week before tax so there is no way we can afford anything. Our rent contract ends in december, we wont be able to afford our rent for next month til december. Surely i should be entitled to something? I've worked since i was 16, full time.
Thank you xxx

How far along are you? I notice in your status it says that you're pregnant?

If the reason you were selected as a candidate for redundancy was the fact that you're pregnant then that's definitely grounds for unfair dismissal in which case you'd do well to seek legal advice. Otherwise, the only things you might be entitled to are:

- Statutory maternity pay or maternity allowance (dependant on far along you are)
- Child tax credits (once baby is born, though dependant on how far along you are then you may be able to put your claim in now so they can pay as soon as you're eligible)
- Redundancy pay (you should be offered money from the company making you redundant).
- Possibly contribution based JSA

Your partner should be able to claim working tax credits if he's over 25, and i'd check to see if you can get council tax/housing benefits.

Im nearly 27 weeks pregnant. Me and about 9 other people had to leave because the company has no money to keep us on. Im not entitled to SMP, but am getting mat allowance 1 week before baby is born. DO i not get anything to compensate for being made redundant? Thanks x

You should get redundancy pay if you have been with the company longer than 2 years i think.

How long had you been with the company? If you go here:

https://www.direct.gov.uk/redundancy.dsb

That should calculate how much, if any, statutory redundance pay you should be entitled to - i'd think you'd definitely be entitled to some. You might also get:

- SureStart Maternity grant (£500)
- Vouchers for milk, veg etc (£3.10 per week)
- Health in pregnancy grant (£190)
- Child trust fund voucher (£250/£500 when baby is born)

Feel free to PM me if you want some advice, i'm no expert but my cousin just went through something similar and I was busy helping her figure it all out so its fresh in my mind lol.
