Hiya evryone jes woundering if anyone of you is having trouble trying to sort out benefits, i.e. income support....
Im in full-time college nd not working....Have to go to college nd work placement monday to friday nd weekends is normally assisgnment time....i have been trying to sort of my income support for a while nd i cant seem to get it right. im started to panic as im 28 weeks pregnant nd still havent bought any baby stuff.... nd struggling to get to college as i have no source of income nd mum hasnt got money to spare. The other thing is that it can take up to six weeks for benefits to come through. I filled in the 3 income support form nd sent it bout a week ago but i got a letter talking about employment nd i informed them in the form that im in full-time college nd dont work.:hissy: im jes getting really frustrated with all this hassle as i have other things to worry bout.

hey, if ur having problems with income support the best thing to do is ring them so u can sort everything out there and then, i had a few problems and rang them and they sorted it all out sraight away. and with the money for transport to and from college, the college could help with that if you expalin your situation. hope that helped

Thanks hun will try that on monday nd see how it goes... beautiful baby gurl u got there hun :)

u shud be entitled to a maternity grant too and i think if bubs is due past 9th april £190 which every1 is entitled to regardless of situation call and ask thm hun x

Also if you claim income support hun you are entitled to the sure start maternity grant which is a £500 one off payment into your account to help with costs of stuff for the baby. Definatly look into it as im almost certain you are one of the lucky ones who are eligable for it!!
Plus a healthy start grant also which gives you a bit of money towards food for you and i think milk vouchers for the baby?
xxx

Hey, I had the same problem as you, was a bit of a pain in the arse if I'm honest.

You can't claim income support until you're 29 weeks pregnant. Once you are 29 weeks, go onto this website:
https://www.dwp.gov.uk/eservice/#
and click on 'Launch Services and Benefits Online' and fill it in.
I found it so much easier applying for income support online, was less hassle.
When it comes up to the working situations part, make sure you click that you are unable to work at the moment because you are so many weeks pregnant (otherwise they'll just try n get you into work for a week or two which is abit pointless if I'm honest hun (unless you want to do that).
But once you've filled the form in, they'll contact you in the next 2 days by phone and double check your information and then call you in to your local job centre for an interview (to make sure you are who you say you are) and it will all be sorted within 10 working days after that.

Once your income support has come through, print this form off (for the £500 sure start maternity grant), fill it in and take it to your local job centre and they'll send it off for you:
https://www.dwp.gov.uk/advisers/claimforms/sf100_print.pdf
But don't send off for it until your first payment of income support has come through otherwise they'll just keep on sending it back. Then once you send that off, that'll be sorted within 2 weeks and you'll have it paid straight into your bank account.

It sounds like a lot to do but it was fairly straight forward.
Hope I've helped hun and good luck xxxx

Thanks hun will ahve a look at website
im 29 weeks at the end but the thing is i have been in hospital for a while nd in full time college thanks tho :D

How old are you hun?
Do you know if your mum still gets benefits for you - such as Child Benefit and Tax Credit - if she does it will make a difference as she will have to claim the benefits for your little one (apart from child benefit, unsure about tax credits) until you finish your college course and she stops getting benefit for you. This is only the case if you still live at home. Not what you wanted to hear I'm sure, but hope it gives you a bit more of an idea

Good luck
