Hi,
Im 15 weeks pregnant with twins and just found out they are mono mono
Twins. My Doc said those are the worst kind to be pregnant with. Im like everyone
Else I been reading online about it and my nervousness has gotten worst. I just want to
Do everything possible to make these babies safe and healthy. I am.freaking out cuz
Normal questions are going through my head...what online that I.read is true...do these babies only have a 50/50% chance of living? How great are the chances of.
Cord entanglement or the TTS? Im just so nervous..i have 4 kids from a previous
Marriage and just got married to.the love of my life and promised him a kid of
His own,and now twins...hes super excited but im super scared.
I just need to know im not alone and know wat to expect.

congratulations! I have frats myself so can't lend any personal experience but there are some on here who have had mo-mo.
i know they will monitor you a lot more closely to watch for any of the complications that might arise and they usually don't tend to let them go past a certain point.
Google is the twin mommys worst enemy it tends to tell you a lot of the worst case senerios and tend to scare you. if you have questions it's best to post on here and try to stay away from google. the ladies here are very helpful and lovely.
although twin pregnancy come with a lot more worry, once you get past the OMG twins stage it is an amazing experience.

They thought mine were mo/mo at first too because they couldn't see a dividing membrane. Turns out it is pretty thin so they couldn't see it for a long time, but its there. So there's still a chance they'll find one between your twins, they just may not be able to see it on the ultrasound yet. And I agree with PP, don't google this stuff. You'll just find worst case scenarios and it'll scare you. They will monitor you closely I'm sure and there are things they can do if ttts or something develops. Be strong girl!

Just remember, people only tend to post things on the internet when things go wrong and they need advice etc. That's why there are so many horror stories all over the internet! When things go swimmingly, people rarely feel the need to post about it, myself included! I am guilty of posting online more often when I am worried about something!!

There are many many successful mo/mo pregnancies out there, don't worry. My advice to you (coming from someone who is carrying two babies that also share a placenta) is to make sure you drink lots of water and have a high protein diet and as much rest as you can. I am on two protein shakes a day on top of a healthy diet. You gotta do your best to keep that placenta well nourished!

They may still find a dividing membrane.

You will be monitored very closely.

Congratulations on your twins! :baby::baby: Hope you have a happy, healthy, worry-free pregnancy.

Thank you everyone. Yeah I Know I shouldn't have gone online its just this is so new
To me n worries me..and they are a hundred percent sure they are mono mono
Cause they were hand and hand and she.said there's no way there is a membrane.
I'm taking a bunch of pills for iron n calcium...because I'm
Anemic and not able to.eat or drink dairy products. Im trying
To Keep a good diet but im Nauseous all The time.

are mono mono twins identical, sharing a placenta and one sac? If so a friend of mine JUST had hers last Tuesday, at 36w4d! Both 6lbs...maybe this will make you feel better!!

They thought mine were mono/mono at first too....but they are actually mono/di (share a placenta not sacs) it is just the membrane is very thin... Did you have a level 2 US. I think that is often needed to see the membrane!

I'm not sure if it was a level 2 US... I just know she said
She was for sure they were mono mono. Im just so worried
Cuz I have allot going on n another kid n its hard to not
Stress n thats all she keeps sayin.

My doctor did tell me that mono/mono are higher risk but that they watch them closely now and there is a good chance there will be a good outcome. I know it is hard not to worry but stress is never good! I worry about my twins and twin-to-twin transfusion....I finally stopped researching on the internet...was making me worry!

Ya im.just so happy I.found this place n that I'm not alone.
How far along are you? Girls or boys?

Yep, it's a worrisome time carrying identical twins, but it is so important to try and keep the worry under control because your babies will do better in a relaxed body! At 20 weeks, my twins were borderline TTTS; Twin 2 was measuring smaller and sitting in only 1.2cm of fluid, while Twin one was in 6.5cm. I was scanned every 3 days and monitored very closely. At 29 weeks, they had corrected themselves completely without any intervention. They are both sitting in equal amounts of amniotic fluid and there is only an estimated 4oz difference between the size and they are doing great!

So, it is also possible to have a TTTS scare and for it to correct itself without having to have any kind of medical intervention.

:hugs:

Well heres a update.....i had a doc appt yesterday and asked
For a level two US and they did one and they found a very thin membrane.
They said that from the last one it look like they were touching hands but it
Must have been their mistake. So they did find one. Yay. But they said
The risk r still the same minus cord entanglement. They are a little worried though
Cause baby A is bigger then baby B. At first it was by a day then
Went to 4 days by the next appointment and now as of yesterday its a week.
So they wanna keep a close eye on baby B. They gave me another appointment dec 19.
So we will see how it goes. Thanks all for your support.

Hey that's good news. Mono/Di twins are still high risk, but less risk than Mono/mono.

The size discrepancy/discordance between your two babies is only a concern if it is above 20% - Were you told what percentage the difference was at this point?

Did the Sonographer measure the fluids in each of the sacs?

They should measure the blood flow from the placenta to each of the babies and also check their bladders at every growth scan. The blood flow and the bladders are the key things to check. If they find that there is a risk of TTTS developing, you will need to be monitored much more closely.

Good luck and keep us updated!

That's how my twins are. Mono/di with a very thin membrane. That is good news though and you should feel much better about that. :) I've had scans every 2 weeks since 20 weeks to monitor them closely and pick up any sign if TTTS. One of my twins has always been a bit bigger than the other, but not enough to worry about. I hope yours will just even out eventually. Keep us posted! :hugs:

Do I still have to be admitted in the hospital at 26 weeks n monitored until 32.weeks
Until the c.section?

I am expecting mono/di twins and they said nothing like that to me. I was told they would monitor them and make decisions based on how they are doing. You should be able to avoid hospital if all looks good.

I don't know who told you this and why, but I can't see any reason why you would be admitted to the hospital at 26 weeks unless you have some underlying issue you haven't told us about.

The only thing I was told (and I am carrying mono/di twins also) was that my particular hospital won't let me go beyond 37 weeks - if I don't go into labour by then, they will take me in to be induced/c-section.

You should be monitored every two weeks at least as a basis. If any issues should arise, they will probably ask you to come in more often. If there are no problems, you will just proceed as any normal pregnancy, right up to the very end. I imagine they would have a cut off date where they wouldn't let you progress any further as the shared placenta gets a little worn out towards the end, but they will tell you that closer the time!

Fab news to have found a membrane, wishing you a happy healthy 5 months until you meet your new babies!!! Xx

Congratulations on your twins. I think it's only no mo twins were there consider hospital admission as routine at a certain point. There was a lady on here you had mo mo twins as she was admitted at about 28 weeks I think for very close monitoring as the risk of complications is higher.

Mo/di twins aren't as high risk as mo mo, I have mo/do twins as I wasn't admitted to hospital until by planned c section date, so I am guessing that is for mo mo twins.

I was still monitored closely though with scans every two weeks from 18 weeks onwards, as every week from week 28 as a precaution, due to a dodgy scan I had, bad measurements from the sonographer.

Having ID twins is scary with so many horror stories, but I had a complication free pregnancy, I had my girls at 36&4 as I wasn't allowed to get past 37 weeks, so had a c section at that point, my girls were a healthy 6lbs 5 and 6lbs 3, and never needed any special care. Just wanted to know its not all horror stories.

Good luck with your pregnancy and any questions please feel free to ask them here. xx
