Hello again everyone:flower:

Help! Spoke to my h/v today & she has advised that I change Emily's milk as she thinks E has reflux when I asked which one she said sorry we are not allowed to recomend formula.

So I wondered if someone here could help, my ideal would be a formula that I can also get cartons in & with less lactose in but anything that has really helped with your babies reflux advise please.

Thanks for reading.

I use Sma staydown for my lo as advised by hv, she also recommended cow n gate comfort. Heard mixed reviews on both but staydown is working brill for our lo xx

Thanks lauram22 its funny how your hv was able to recommend but mine wouldn't:nope:

Yeh that's quite odd! I've heard you can get SMA staydown on prescription, might be worth asking your gp? I'm going to try next week! You can also get a thickener and just add it to normal formula.. Think it's called carobel x

Jane, I can't speak highly enough about Carobel. It has been a godsend for us with Ethan's reflux. We have him on Aptamil milk, aparantly this formula is easily digested and add 1 scoop of Carobel to every 2 ounces of milk and this has reduced the bringing up of the milk by about 90%. He is still on medication which has just been changed as he is still producing alot of acid but the Carobel has just about stopped the sick. I even feel confident enough to bring him out without a bib on. I ordered it from the Superdrug Pharmacy. It's made by Cow and Gate and is £4.99 a box. A box will last about 3 -4 weeks. HTH

Thank you Carrie that sounds great  last night I got more than 2 hours sleep so I am going into town today to see which milk looks best & I think I will ask about Carobel.

Bless her. It gets better dont worry hun. U can use a baby spoon to stir, & it's better to use bigger teats. Dr. Brown bottles also helps but u need to buy stage 2 teats as bottles only comes with size 1. xx

Keep her cot tilted & hold her upright for 20-30 mins after her feed. a tummy & foot massage also helps. Choose a time when she's in a good mood, 30 mins before her feed. :hugs:

hey hun both my girls had severe reflux, i was prescribed gavison infant powder sachets to put in bottles to thicken milk up by hosp and doc, it stopped working after a while so she had medication - domeperidone and im not to sure of the name of the other one, i cant think off hand. they were all really good though. doc can prescribe it, you will prob have to try gaviscon first as it thickens milk up so it stays down. as soon as ur LO is on solids if she's not already (as i dont no how old she is) it should calm down alot if not go completely x hope that helps

Thank you angelkatelyn Emily is 5 weeks tomorrow & for the 1st 2 weeks there was no problems at all, I am lucky though that I have a very supportive husband & a 16 year old that has never once woken with her crying which is handy as his had his GSCEs.

with my son he has GERD similar to AR but worse, anyways we had to order him Emfamil AR he was on this until he was almost 2.

Thank you lynne, Emily is only 5 weeks tomorrow so 2 years seems ages away.. but once he was on the Emfamil AR was he any better?

his condition was really bad but we seen an improvement with the AR emifel. medication never helped but he got better as he got older, he's not mainly able to control it.

Mine is on Aptamil AR which is similar to Emfamil AR (the same thickening agent). But unfortunately u cant find it in the UK. My LO is still taking it for reflux & his Dr. advised us to keep giving it to him until he's one, then switch slowly & see how it goes. He's still sicky frm time to time but it improved at 6.5 mnths.

i got and could still get mine off of the doctor on prescription, talk to your health visitor and tell your doctor they advised puting your child on enfimil AR, they will write you a prescription and ask how much you need i used to get about 22-30 cans a month :D was funny picking them up at boots cause used to be really heavy i used to split it into a few weeks to have it collected leaving with a pram bludging with milk cans lol... the cans are tiny but worth it!

Just wanted to say a big thank you:flower: to everyone who replied to this thread, I have found the last few weeks very hard & this forum has been great. x

I will update on Emily's progress & any more tips are very welcome.

no probs huni, the other medication a couldnt remember the name of was ranitidine, the both of them together are meant to calm the excess acid causing the reflux and pain making the babies cry and other one to keep milk down, hope they help u soon x
