You can tell it was six years ago I had a new born, I cant remember anything!!
My lo is 12 days old and tbh she sleeps no problem at night, generally waking just for bottles, however when we take her up to bed about 10.00 she just wont settle! Last night at 12.00am she was still fussing and wouldn't settle as she was wide awake!
I dont know how to move forward her awake time, shall I put her to bed earlier and try and settle her earlier? Shall I start a bath, bottle, bed routine? I cant remember what I did with dd1!! Also yesterday baby slept pretty much all day so I'm thinking she still has her days and nights mixed up!

Ds2 is the same waking till 2am. I don't know what the right way to do it is (interested to see replies) but we have it so upstairs lights off (except night light) and no noise at night and downstairs daytime lights on, noise galore with a busy 3 yr old. I haven't started any kind of routine yet

At 12 days old she is very likely have have days and nights mixed up for a while. Also newborns don't really have days and nights as they often need round the clock care, its part of a survival mechanism I guess.

Babies can have their days and nights mixed up until they are up to 3 months of age. There is really nothing you can do until they biologically sort out their circadian rhythms themselves. They aren't born with their bodies making the right chemicals at the right times of day to have a sleep/wake cycle that resembles sleep at night and awake during the day. Exposure to bright light during the early afternoon can help production of melatonin, but you really still have to wait for their little bodies to figure it out. Any amount of bedtime routine, etc, can't change things unfortunately. Unfortunately it's just a fact of life with a newborn that they don't know they shouldn't be waking for hours in the night! Let your baby sleep when she's tired and she will figure it out in time. Not that that's any consolation to a sleep deprived mum! We all get through it though. :)

In addition to not having set circadian rhythyms, it could also be the 2 week growth spurt/fussy period at this time. It will pass mama
