Well ladies, trying to find time to share our story with you certainly has been a challenge, so here it is finally...
As a lot of you know, I had my second sweep on Friday 3/1. I had already had 1 acupuncture treatment and started losing my plug. My doctor was very aggressive with the sweep as I was almost a week over-due and doing everything I could to avoid induction. Well, it worked. I started having mild contractions that night, and woke up Saturday morning around 7:00 with them around 8-10 minutes apart. We went about our day, ran several errands early so we could come home and see how the day panned out. DH and I watched the new Twilight movie and about halfway through, my contractions were 3-5 minutes apart and getting stronger. I watched the last half of he movie bouncing on my ball. By 2:00, my contractions had progressed to about 2 minutes apart and increasingly more uncomfortable. I had a massage scheduled for 5:00 but by that time I was doubled over and having to work to get through the pain of the contractions. Our birthing instructor came over as she was going to assist in our birth and we labored at home until about 8:00. We got to the hospital and to my dismay, I was only 3 cm dilated. But, they admitted me and we got settled in our room. Within 2 hours, I jumped up to 6 cm and we thought this thing was going to happen fast... WRONG. 4 hours later and in excruciating pain I broke down and had to have an epi. I was exhausted and after laboring for about 20 hours, no way I could go on the way I was. It was horrible labor, i was throwing up all over everything the pain was so bad...So at 3:00 a.m. I got the epi, and was able to relax. They came back to check me again an hour or so later and I had just moved to about 7, so now they had to give me the pitocin. I was upset because I wanted a natural birth so badly, but at this point I just wanted to avoid a c-section. Come to find out, reason why I stalled at 6 cm was because LO had turned posterior at the last minute and wasn't moving down. The pitocin got me dilated to 8 and then 10 within another few hours thankfully. I pushed for 3 hours, and she finally arrived sunny side up! We had a scare, she was in shock from the stress of such a long labor, and had to be revived as soon as they put her on my chest hey had to take her away. Her little eyes rolled back in her head an she wasn't crying, luckily it only took a couple minutes to get her straightened out but to me it was eternity. So, we are all home now healthy and happy. She's crying a lot and sleep is minimal, but she is truly a miracle and we are so in love it's just amazing.
She weighs 8lb 2 oz, 20.5" long and might I add I didn't tear or need any stitches so very thankful for that! Although I did get a hemmroid today on my first trip to the bathroom
but that's a small price to pay.
