I posted a thread yesterday about spotting after I got a cervical exam at my 37 week appointment. First it started out as pink with a bit of red, then gradually turned brown. This all has been accompanied with menstrual like cramping. Last night before I went to bed I used the rest room and when I went to wipe there was this large blob of brown mucus. Could that have been my mucus plug?
Ever since then I have still been having brown discharge when i wipe and some smaller pieces of the stringy, mucusy, brown stuff. The cramps also havent stopped. I dont know if they are contractions, I am a FTM, but they dont appear to make my stomach hard. THey are just there constantly.

Could that maybe have been me loosing my plug? I will probably call my doctor to ask what they think soon if it doesnt stop. I know it is common to spot and have cramps after a cervical exam, but I also thought that a mucus plug was more clear colored, so im a little concerned....

Hi there the mucus plug is clear snot like jelly, the show is bloody.

I would imagine that if you've had a cervical exam then it could be a bit of a bleed from that so I would wait and see tomorrow if it still continues. Remember brown is old blood whereas from what I gather the show is red fresh look or a pinky colour.

It could be your show too though but I would wait until tomorrow and see and maybe give your mw a call if it hasn't stopped.

You'll know if you're getting contractions and they'll increase in frequency and intensity xx

Mucus plugs can be clear, but most of them resemble snot. I read one post that referred to it as a "vagina sneeze" which made me giggle because I've been losing bits and pieces and mine looks that way right now. It may or may not have bloody pieces in it (old or new blood) to my understanding. I'm a FTM too so learning with everyone else. I too have had strong period cramps (had them the night before my 38 wk appt this wk) and my dr said it's good but not great news because contractions really make your whole stomach hard! In saying that, I had progressed another centimeter in dilation so I really think the cramps helped that!! But you could be well on your way too something with all of this amping up at once for you  I hope so for you! :)

The doctor did say that I had progressed to 2 cm from the last time I was checked a few weeks ago. Im just concerned about the cramping and the spotting, and now the brown snotty blob... I have never spotted after a cervical exam before so it has be a little more than concerned. Ya know? The last time I had these kinds of cramps was a little over 34 weeks and I was already dialated 1cm and 70% effaced.

Vagina sneeze! That's just what I thought this morning when I lost a large glob of plug! Though I'm not even 33 weeks yet so hoping my little pip stays put for at least another 3 weeks.

In my last pregnancy my show looked like a huge brown blob of mucus, it surprised me so much as was expecting clear or 'streaked' that I showed dh who promptly retched and told me that it was the most disgusting thing he'd ever seen! Lol :)

I had the same thing at 33 weeks and went I explained it to my midwife she said it was probably my mucus plug, it doesn't have to be clear - quite often it is brown

Xx

Do you think I should call my doctor then? I lost that and am still cramping. It just feels like consistent menstrual cramps.

I think it's probably worth calling your doc if you are still cramping. They can provide peace of mind if nothing else. Some people say early labour feels like period pain and you are full term now and your cervix is dilating so all good signs! Let us know how you get on :)

I called and they told me that it is common after a check to get cramping and bleeding for a couple of days afterwards and it is also common this far along for the mucus plug to come out and can be brown. The nurse I talked to just said to keep an eye on it and if the cramping got more intense and began to have a pattern to give them a call again and go get checked out.

Pregnancy is so confusing! All the aches, pains and symptoms all feel like a period! Its annoying lol I wish our bellies or something would just change color or start glowing when it was time, something obvious to indicate that it is really happening lol:dohh:

Exactly like a mood ring! I hope my water will break so it is at least something obvious that I will notice as the start of things. Not just this it feels like menstrual cramps crap...:dohh:
