Hi all,

This has probably been asked before so feel free to direct me to somewhere, that has an answer.

My DD is 2yrs and 5 months. She has started using the toilet with a toddler seat, bypassed the potty didn't want to know, we've been doing it gradually over a few months letting her have no nappy on, if she wants the toilety she'll use it but if she prefers the nappy I give it back. So theres been no pressure and still isn't.

However, she started even with pull ups on saying wee wee and going to the toilet for a wee, so we went for knickers to see how she'd get on she's been 2 days dry during the day, nappies for bed time, but she won't poo.

She needs to poo she puts her hand on her bottom to stop it coming out, squats, cries, then waddles around. I ask if she wants to do poo poo she says no, I ask if she wants a nappy she says no, and just cries.

I try to reassure her it's ok to go poo poo, in the end she's gone to bed and pooed in her sleep. Which i'm relieved about as it means she's not constipated.

But how do I get her to realise it's ok to go poop on the toilet!!

Honestly, I potty trained my lo pretty quickly with pooping. My only advice: let your little one in there when you poop, lol. I grunt, and after I'm done, she would look in the toilet. We say 'bye bye pop pop, see you later!' Hahaha. When lo goes to poo, she grunts silly noises, and goes!
I guess I figure the more fun and natural I made it, the easier lo would understand, without any fear. Good luck!

Yes great thank you, thats how we got her using the toilet in the first place watching me wee, it never crossed my mind to let her see me poo too.

I suppose to 3 minutes it takes to do a poo is the only 3 minutes me time a day I get so I cherish it lol!

Thank you x

I made it fun with my toddler. We still laugh at the splash and wave bye to the poo when flushing it away etc. and yep grunting is definately allowed

My ds likes us to leave the room when he does a poo. We have had pottys around since he was 1. He first starting potty training himself at about 1yr10mths, whilst running around in the nud he would sit on the potty for a wee and poo, but not tell us he needed to go. He started asking us to 'go outside', which is when I realised he wanted us to leave him. So we did and he happily goes, he likes to know we are there though so we have to keep talking to him whilst he poo's. Maybe your dd is a private pooer?? Perhaps ask her if she wants you to wait outside?
xxx

She will get there when she's ready. We started proper potty taining when Omar was almost 3. He was dry day & night but he refused to poop in the toilet, he used to ask for a nappy to poo. 5 days back, he wanted to poop, he didnt have a nappy on, he did a small bit on his underpants, so we ran to the toilet, put him there, & he pooped!

We made a big deal out of it, we cheered, clapped & danced when he was pooping

Once she is able to do it at least once in the toilet, she will be fine later. Now Omar is out of nappies full time even at bedtime.

Ihsan was the same with poo'ing in the potty, it took a bit longer. I think he was about 25/26months the first time he done a wee in the potty and a good few weeks later until he poo'd in there. After the first time he was fine though, and never looked back. He would ask to use the big toilet when he needed to poo so he kind of naturally stopped using the potty from there. It also took him a bit longer to use public toilets because he is such a private toilet person he doesn't like me in there especially when he needs a poo. When we are out I have to stand outside the cubicle and at home he goes in himself when he needs to. By 2.5years he was fine at home/outside. Night time took longer, but we got there. It sounds like your doing great btw
