My 15 Month Old Hates Pooping

Maybe it does hurt him for some other reason? It could just be the fact he just does not like to poop haha maybe the sensation of it bothers him. But it wouldn't hurt to get it checked out just in case it's something that truly does hurt him not necessarily being constipated though. :flower:

I know from family experience that it can get pretty serious and include hospital stays… NOT that you are near that point. I would speak to a doctor though, to at least see if they suggest something you can do to help or find out if it's really hurting him. I'm guessing they would suggest to change his diet, but I don't know.

My son has this issue. At 13mths he got chicken pox on his bottom and I guess inside and found passing poos very painful. The pain eased but 10mths on he still hates doing it. He's always had pooing issues right from the beginning and normally just had one poo a day, but since dropping milk he is going every 2-3 days and the poos have become firmer, which makes him more anxious. When he went 6 days without a bm we did get movicol but I don't feel his is normal constipation. It's more anxiety about going. He also prefers to go out of sight, doesn't like going on the potty (he wants to stand) and sometimes wants our reassurance, so I cuddle and stroke his back. If you can find something to loosen them naturally (we use blueberries), it can make the movements easier to pass. As long as you know their hydrated and eating a balanced diet, then just offer reassurance.

My 16 month old also gets very distressed pooping and also goes first thing in bed just fine. She isn't holding it in though - our paediatrician asked us to go back to him if she did because he said it could rapidly lead to bigger problems.

We had this issue for several months when LO was younger, probably 8 to 12 months old or so. She would ocassionally have a large hard stool that caused pain, and I believe that she held it in because of that, which of course made for larger stools when she did finally go. We eventually got it under control by giving her prune juice every day. At one point she was getting 3 to 4 ounces a day which is a whole lot for a baby, but that's what she needed to keep things moving. Now we're down to about 2 ounces a day and she goes with no problem at all.
