I'd been having cramps and a lot of pressure on my cervix since Sunday and I now know this was my body doing all the ground work and this is why I laboured so quickly!! I woke up at 1.17am on Thursday morning and noticed mild cramps in my back (not sure if these are what woke me up)
Got up for a pee and noticed my pants looked a bit wet then sat down as a trickle of fluid came out! I felt so excited! Called my DH who was having a (sober) poker night with the guys lol!! And said he better get home ASAP.

I called my local maternity unit for advice even though I knew I'd have to go to a further away hospital (1 hour drive!!!) for the birth due to my previous retained placenta. The midwife there told me to stay at home for as long as possible (!!) and call back when my contractions take my breath away.
I wasn't happy with those instructions so I called the hospital that I'd be giving birth in, I said I'm an hour away and by this time I'd had 4 cramps in 20 mins- the midwife there told me to come in. But I could stop off at the maternity unit to get checked on the way just incase.

So left the house around 2am and drove the half hour to the maternity unit. Was an ok journey- was timing contractions on my app and they were consistently every 3 mins and getting stronger. Arrived at first hospital and I was 4cm fully effaced and baby's head was 'well down' so on we went to the next hospital which was another half hour drive- this journey was horrendous!! I was holding onto the handle on the roof of the car that you can use to get in and out. I was swinging on it and shouting and screaming. The contractions were becoming unbearable!
Arrived at the 2nd hospital at 3.40am and got some gas and air. I was shouting for more pain relief but they had started running the pool and if I had morphine I wouldn't be allowed in the pool. So the midwife (who was amazing btw) persuaded me to try the pool and the gas and see how I go.
I had a 10 min wait while they filled the pool and I was so distressed through the contractions that the midwife said either I need more pain relief or the baby is just about to come!
Just then I started feeling pressure on my bum and had to push! So they quickly got me into the pool as it was still filling up, and I started to push. 10 minutes later she was born which was 4.24am!!
My placenta came out fine, had a tiny tear but no stitches and she breastfed straight away so this was the complete opposites from my first birth!!
So pleased with my experience I was so happy and excited all day I could hardly sleep! Was back home by 5pm that evening.
So my labour lasted 3 hours from start to finish and if I can give any advice trust your instincts cos if I'd listened to that first midwife, it could have been a completely different story!
