Well it's been 4 weeks since I had my little bundle and I couldn't be happier...or more tired! :-D
I didn't have the best labour but I would do it all again just to have her. Here's my birth story...
I went for my 40 week midwife appointment (at 40+3) at 2pm where I declined a sweep due to back and hip pain. My husband then dragged me around town before taking me and my sister for lunch. At lunch I noticed my tummy was a bit sore, but nothing major. I assumed it was just from walking about. We got home about 6pm and I was asleep by 6:20! I woke up about 7:30 quite uncomfortable and decided to go for a bath. I stayed in the bath for 2 hours trying to relax. Once I was out I finally realised I was in labour.
I snuggled up on the couch after checking my hospital bag and tried to sleep...ha that didnt happen. All of a sudden I was having contractions 5 minutes apart and lasting a minute. I phoned l&d to let them know I was in labour, took paracetamol then climbed on to my birthing ball.
Very soon after I got hooked up to my TENS machine which was great. I lasted at home til 2:30" contractions just the same time wise, just gradually getting more intense.
We got to the hospital at 3am and found out I was 5cm dilated. Yahoo! Contractions at that point where every 3 minutes and VERY intense. I was offered an epidural which was sited at 5am. Unfortunately it failed even after a top up. The consultant was busy so I just had to deal with the pain on g&a and no TENS machine as I had to take it off for the epidural. Major sad face!!!!
Since the midwife told us it would be hours til I delivered (as I am a FTM) I sent hubby home for some sleep at 7am, only to have to phone him at 8 and tell him to get back in as I needed to push!!
After 2 long and very painful hours of pushing I was told baby was distressed and heart rate was dropping. I wasn't getting anywhere with my pushes so was told they would need to do a cut and use forceps. After a few jabs of local to my hoo-ha (ouch!) the consultant tickled my tonsils with her salad tongs and pulled my...wait for it...back to back little munchkin from her cosy bed! She was born at 10:32 on the 31st of October at a lovely 6lb 11oz. Just perfect.
The end result of being on a bed for hours to labour, having a back to back baby, long stage of pushing and then forceps - a 4th degree tear. I got 3 minutes of skin to skin, then was whipped of to theatre. Two hours later I got to finally cuddle my gorgeous baby girl Isabella.
My labour was very difficult and I must admit I was traumatised for a week afterwards. I cried every single day and had nightmares about it. But now I've forgotten all the bad stuff and would do it again just to get her. She is worth the nine months of morning sickness, the stretch marks, then sheer exhaustion. I love my gorgeous little bundle and wouldn't change a thing!!!!
