Sorry it's taken me so long to post ladies, it's been pretty full on.
I had a stretch and sweep done on the Thursday. Didn't feel overly confident in it, it just seemed like it gave me some annoying cramps and that was it. Went to bed feeling quite deflated. I was only 38 weeks, so I shouldn't/couldn't have expected too much from it. The next morning I woke up to find I had passed some of my plug. It seemed to be coming in big clumps (sorry for the tmi) and the cramps seemed to progress in intensity and regularity until I ended up in hospital. They checked us over and sent me home, it wasn't our time. I cried the whole way home as I was convinced it was time.
My husband tried to cheer me up the next day by taking our daughter and myself to a shop that had a coffee shop and playground inside. That was where my water broke. I didn't realise what it was at the time though, I thought I was passing more of my plug so I didn't think much of it. At around 5pm, I was cooking dinner, more of my waters came. This time I knew for sure what it was. We had to go and pick up my mother in law from the airport an hour later, she travelled across the other side of the country to make sure she was here for Christmas and my sons birth, she came just in time. We grabbed her, took her home, introduced her to our daughter and had to leave for the hospital.
My cramps were coming hard and strong at this point, I was excited and very nervous as I was having a VBAC. They checked my cervix, confirmed I had in fact broken my waters and waited for the cramps to increase. They continued all night, and even subsided a little bit. The next day the doctor said that if they didn't come back they would have to intervene, so I went for a walk and found some stairs to climb. It worked!! We were fully in labour! I had a bath and tried to get comfortable. Started the gas and air as the contractions came harder. The doctors came and checked on me again and I was only 3 cm, they soon realised I had more waters blocking the way so once they broke those, it was on! I have no idea of time from here on in. I couldn't differentiate between what was going on in my head and what was happening and started saying the most random things, "I want your tits on toast" was something I said to the hubby, thankfully no one else was in the room
I screamed the place down, I think I would have scared anyone else coming into the birth suit. I wish I could say I handled the pain well, but I really didn't. They gave me a shot of morphine (I didn't want pethidine) which didn't do anything for me, I started begging for an epidural then they told me I was 8 cm. I changed my mind and before I knew it, it was time to push.
I was pushing for nearly 2 hours but my little mans head was stuck behind my pelvic bone, I needed help. He was tired, I was tired. They cut me open (ouch) and used the suction cup. In 5 sucks he was out.
The overwhelming feeling of accomplishment and pride, love and relief came all at once, my boy was here. I had had a successful VBAC!
He's perfect! We came home shortly after as I wanted to be comfortable in my own home.
Well done for getting this far if you did I'm so happy
