On Monday morning at 4am my pains started and were 5 minutes apart. They were painful enough to make me get up as i couldnt sleep through them.
These pains continued through the day and were bearable and i could continue with my normal everyday activities.
On Monday night at about 11.30 the pains started getting a bit worse and again i put in another night of no sleep. I went to bed anyway hoping to get some sleep but just tossed and turned and eventually got up. i was getting uncomfy so sat on my gym ball for a while and next thing my waters broke.
I wakened DH and he called the hospital but they said to they would arrange for a community midwife to call out to see me when they started their shift between 8-8.30am. The midwife didnt arrive till near 11am.
When she got here she asked about the colour of my waters and looked at the pad and turns out baby had pooed inside. so off to the hospital i had to go.
Got to the hospital at 11.30am still able to get through the contractions (Just about) and then it all suddenly changed when i got to the delivery suite. The contractions were coming thick and fast. The midwife got me up on the bed so she could monitor baby and the contractions. Got the trace on and then the contractions really stepped up a gear!!!
I suddenly felt the need to push and the burning sensation so i told the midwife and she rushed out to get some others in to help. They came in and wipped my trousers off. Dr came in and examined me and said i was fully dilated - OMG I really didnt expect to be fully dilated at this stage and was thinking i was overreacting and just not coping with the pain lol.
they gave me the gas and air but i didnt like they way it made me feel so i didnt use it, i just held on to it and squeezed on the handle of that instead of my husbands hand hehe!! Plus the Dr said it was causing babys heartbeat to dip.
Got told to start pushing when i got my next contraction (didnt have to wait long) so i pushed and then heard the Dr say i would need assistance, either vaccum or forceps - both of which i was keen to avoid!! One of the girls there put in a local anaesthetic but it didnt have the time to work! so next contraction i pushed with all my might!! about 5 pushes later and my precious 6lb 3.5oz pink bundle was born at 12.20!!
I feel so proud that i managed to have the kind of birth i always imagined with little to no pain relief and i managed to cope!
Very surreal experience. We had to stay in overnight in hospital as she had to be monitored due to the meconium in the waters. Glad to be home now with her and im hoping i get some sleep tonight as i havent had any sleep now since Sunday night!!
Thanks for reading this far and i hope you all have/had the type of birth you all want and hope for!
