It's been almost two weeks since I've had my daughter and I wanted to share my birth story with you ladies! I hope that it helps anyone who is nervous for their C section (like I was!) to feel a little bit calmer and more relaxed about it
My C Section was scheduled for September 9 at 7:30am. We had to be there two hours early to get prepped for everything (get Iv's in, monitor BP, get blood drawn, etc). I was so nervous about my section that I only got about 2 hours of sleep before we had to go to the hospital
Once we got there I was told to get into the hospital gown and that they would send a nurse in to start my IV. THe. ruse couldn't find my veins so I ended up getting pricked 6 times until they could finally get a line in. It definitely was not ripen and took until 7am until they finally could find a vein. My dad, mother in law, and husband were all with me while I was waiting to get walked back to the OR. It was so nice having my family with me to calm me down. Right before they took me back, the anesthesiologist came and talked to me and told me about the procedure and the types of medicine they would be giving me. She was super sweet and told me that if I felt anything (nauseous, short of breathe, ANYTHING) to tell her and she would give me medicine to help me. I told her that I was so so so so nervous about this c section and she said that she would make me feel as comfortable as possible.
FINALLY 7:30am rolled around and my husband and I were walked back into the OR. My dad and mother in law were told to go to the waiting room until they could see me afterwards. Once we got to the operating area, they told my husband to go sit down and they took me into the actual OR where they told me to sit down on the OR table and let my legs hang over the edge. A nurse was in front of me and held my hands while the anesthesiologist administered my numbing shot and then the spinal block. I was really nervous about the spinal but I didn't even feel it. The nurses and the anesthesiologist were all so amazing and kind the whole time and kept my mind off of everything by talking to me about my job (makeup artist) and asking me if I knew how to do a smokey eye LOL.
Once the spinal started to kick in, they quickly had me lay down and because I was nervous about the anesthesia making it hard to breathe, they have me an oxygen mask and I felt SO much better and calmer. They raised the blue sheet in front of my face and my doctor came in and talked to me for a little bit. He told me to not be nervous because I was going to finally have my baby!! The nurses turned on some music and brought my husband in the OR finally. He sat by my head and kept me calm the whole time. I don't even remember how long it was (not very long at all!) until I started to feel a lot of tugging and pushing on my stomach and then I heard the doctor say "We have hair!" And I heard my daughters first cry. It felt like it was only an instant before they pulled her out and took her over to be cleaned up and weighed. I got to see all of that. When my daughter was finally cleaned up they brought her over to my head and layer her down next to me. I got to touch her and kiss her the whole time they were stitching me up.
When it was time for me to be wheeled into recovery, my husband took our daughter and was waiting for me when I got there. The nurses checked my bleeding and helped me start to breastfeed her. I was probably in the recovery area for about an hour and a half until I was wheeled into my room. I got to hold my daughter the whole time
As for the actual recovery, I was definitely sore but it wasn't near as bad as I had imagined it to be. I was up and walking 12 hours after my surgery, showered the next day and took a lap around the post partum ward. Once my catheter was out I was up and out of bed whenever I got the chance! I only needed help getting my daughter out of the the little bassinet thing they had her in. I left the hospital only after 2 days and have been doing great since I got home! I've been going on walks around the mall and running quick errands here and there. I still take my pain medicine to ensure I don't feel any pain but over all I'm so happy with how everything turned out! Honestly, getting my IV in was the worst and most painful part of the whole thing! But most importantly I finally have my beautiful baby girl in my arms
I hope that this helped anyone who is a little nervous about having their section! It honestly isn't that bad at all xoxo
