(I copied this out of my TTC journal but since some people asked me to tell them how the visit went, here it is.)
Okay... today was my first doctors appointment with my new doctor here in Alaska and FINALLY SOMEONE LISTENED TO ME!!!!!
So, the news was not all good. She is really concerned about my PCOS, the fact that I am VERY prone to Yeast Infections and the fact that my periods have no cycle. (She called any periods I may have "fluke periods".) She ordered blood work on everything for me from testosterone (which was high in the past) to Diabetes to Cholesterol to Progesterone. She also had my husband do a semen evaluation.
She told me that she is worried that I have either Diabetes or diabetic tendencies. (She thinks that sugar in my urine might be causing my almost constant YI.) She gave me a prescriptions for a suppository drug for three days but if that doesn't completely keep the YI away, I may have to go on pills for the YI since it is chronic. (Every other doctor that I have told this problem to just told me to basically deal with it.)
She asked me 5,000 questions which made me so happy because she really really cared about trying to help me and get us a baby. She says that I do not just have one thing going on but many and I need to deal with them all. (I am 5'4 and 183 lbs, size 12 (US) and she says I am overweight and need to loose weight too. )
She no longer does obstetrics but recommended me to a fertility specialist in the same building here in our town so I do not have to drive over an hour into Anchorage for every appointment. (She did say that if I was unhappy with him, then I can call her and she will recommend me someone else.) She even called to make sure that he would take me before she even mentioned him to me. She is going to get his office a copy of all the tests they did today and they made my appointment with him for next Thursday (1/31/07) at 1:15pm.
She told me that this is more than a fertility problem but a ongoing problem with my periods from day one and the doctors should have addressed this earlier. She said that I am not to wait anymore time to look into it and should see the new doctor immediately. She said that he may recommend that I loose a bit of weight first but then again may not and will let me wait until after we have a child but she said I have to start ovulating because of the PCOS and YI problems.
I seriously feel like for the first time someone cared about me, my husband, our dreams and the words that were coming out of my mouth. It is a damn shame that she is not a fertility doctor but, as she said, I had to start somewhere and she has given me great help and the needed recommendations of a specialist.
Now I just wait until next Thursday to learn even more. I am nervous about my test results but I am already going to go on a pseudo-diabetic diet to see if it helps the YI issue.
Patience is a virtue, right?
