My February bundle decided to become a January bundle at 38+1
On Monday 28th January at 330am I was fast asleep on the couch (the only place I could sleep comfortably), when I suddenly woke to a weird leaky feeling down below. At first I thought maybe it was extra discharge but decided to have a feel and it was wet. I sat up and felt more trickle out and knew it was my waters. I yelled out to my husband, he ran out to the lounge thinking maybe someone had broken in lol. I told him my waters had broken, he immediately went into panic mode. I asked him to go get my maternity record book out of the car so I could ring l&d. As he did that I scrambled to the bathroom to put on a pad to catch some of the water that continued to trickle down my legs. I then called l&d and told them my water had broken and if they could check my gbs results as I'd had the swab done just a week ago. Results were negative but was told to come in as I'd described the waters looking kinda yellow but wasn't sure if that was from the thrush that I'd had the entire pregnancy. At that time my one year old son woke up with a huge grin on his face. My husband started the car as I shoved some last minute things in my hospital bag. We put our son in the car and we were off. I called my mum on the way to let her know it was time.
We got to the hospital at just after 4am. As I got out the car I continued to leak fluid, the dress I'd been wearing was soaked from behind. My husband got the pram out and put our son in it (we have no family in Melbourne so we were lucky enough to have our son with us throughout it all). Went through emergency real quick, I'd asked staff to mop up the floor there as there was amniotic fluid, I was given a towel to put between my legs. Was the wheeled to l&d, lower back pain had already started but no contractions yet. I was put on the ctg monitor, at around 450am the contractions started but baby had been very still since my waters had broken so was made to drink icy cold water to get her moving. Midwives checked my pad and said that the yellowy color was more than likely the thrush. I was then moved to the delivery room where I was admitted. Contractions were still mild and amniotic fluid continued to leak. I also was peeing a lot every time I'd go to the loo. At 7am contractions were still mild and I was able to talk through them, was given a VE at this time and was told I was only 3cm and that my cervix was still lying far back. Nurses decided to move me to maternity ward to continue to labor. In maternity ward I was checked every half hour by a lovely student midwife, who helped me cope a lot with the contractions later on. I was having two contractions every ten minutes lasting 40 seconds and they wanted me to have three contractions every ten minutes lasting over a minute each. Contractions were now more painful but I was still able to talk through them. They felt my tummy to check baby's position and baby was back to back
I'd told the midwifes that with my son I went from 5cm to fully dilated in less than an hr so they decided to keep the student midwife with just in case. At 11am I was given another VE, at this point contractions were painful, it was then revealed I was 8cm and was wheeled back down to delivery. Once in delivery the contractions got even stronger. I was now moaning loudly with each contraction. The midwife said to me to get on my side that it might help baby to get into a better position so she can come out. As I turned on my side I was hit with the most painful contraction ever and could feel my baby turning, I then had a huge desire to push and I did. I honestly thought everything was going to rip open down there as I pushed her head out in a single push. By the second push my baby had entered the world.
