My friends waters broke last saturday and she has had placental abruption, to what degree it is not known. Her baby is happy in there still so as long as she is infection free and babys happy, they'll leave her as long as possible. Shes had steroids already and baby is measuring the size of a 26 weeker, which hopefully is a bonus should baby come in the next few days. Just wondered if any of you have been in a similar situation, how long they held off delivery and what should she expect immediately after birth, we're in the uk xx

Hello. I was further along than your friend but my waters went at 31+6. I also had anti bs and steroid shots and was then sent home. I managed to last until 34+5 before labour began and was told that was 'a long time to have stayed pregnant without having an infection.' With your friend still being in hospital and so early on though I'm sure they will keep a close eye on her and let baby come when they feel its ready x

Shes finally been moved on to a normal pregnancy ward, which is a good sign, theyve said most people deliver within 48 hours of waters breaking, and as its now day 10 that its a really good sign, shes 24 weeks today so theyve said they will resuscitate baby if its born now. Babys still doing really well and shes still infection free, completely bruised and now has to have bloods taken from the back of her knees or groin as her veins are rubbish. Every day baby is in is an improvement. How long was your bubs in hospital for after? X

I'm glad she has hit 24weeks, must be a relief for her to have hit that major milestone. I Hope she manages to stay pregnant for a long while yet. :hugs:
My LO is still in the neonatal. Its day 14 for her so still very early days x

Aw have you only just had her...aw her pic is so cute :) what weight was she? Is she doing okay? Yeh shes so happy that shes reached 24 weeks, defo a major milestone. She has a 1 year old at home so she misses her like crazy :( must be so difficult for her. Theyre hoping for another couple of weeks to make sure baby has a better chance but i suppose it'll happen when it happens. Shes surprisingly quite calm, i tyink its becausebshe had the priest visit her in hospital to bless them and say a prayer for them. Shes got quite a little fighter in there :) xx

Yes she is 2 weeks old now. She weighed 4lb 13oz which was bigger than they thought as she had restricted growth since my waters went. She's doing well, she has some other problems that arent related to being premature but she seems to be coping well. I'm glad your friend is doing ok. Keeping calm is a fantastic way to help bubs and its not easy to do :hugs: x

Typing 1 handed with a sleepy Ella sprawled across me.

I had placental abruption with contractions at 29 weeks and despite massive bleeds they managed to keep Ella inside me for 4 more weeks. It was then my waters broke and with meconium in the waters they decided to deliver at 33 weeks. I was hospitalised and on bed rest and missed my 2 year old like crazy.

Every day makes a huge difference. I was really worried that my abruption would cause lasting damage to Ella but here she is, fighting fit and been home for 6 weeks now.

I hope your friend keeps well and the baby stays put for a while longer.

Laura x

So glad your babies are all doing well :) its amazing what medics can do now! My bubs only has one kidney which is scary enough but hearing all your stories, i cant imagine how worrying it all is :( you both have such beautiful princesses :)

My friends still holding on, although she has a uti now so fingerscrossed that doesnt cause more problems xx
