On Friday the 13th at 4:30pm I called the hospital to book my bed for inducement (I had an IUGR baby and was told I shouldn't wait till 40weeks so to give birth at 38weeks).
My bed became available at 6:00 so both my OH and I walked up nervously at 6:15pm.
We were given the window bed in a ward of 6 beds (only 4 were occupied by the end of the night) which was lovely.
I was checked over and surprisingly already favourable with a mid centre cervix dilated at 1cm. The gel started off a dull period like cramp almost instantaneously and soon progressed to what I would call 'uncomfortable'. My OH was sent home at 10pm due to visiting hours and was told he would be called as soon as I went into labour. The midwives gave me the 'real deal pep talk' and said I most probably wouldn't go into labour till Sunday so to get comfortable.
I tried to sleep but by 3:30am I was in agony with contractions at 1 minute apart lasting at least 25-30 seconds long. When I couldn't bear it anymore I buzzed the MW and asked for some pain relief, she showed up 10mins later with PARACETAMOL!!! I looked at her in discust but she promised that if it didn't work that she would give me something stronger. 20mins of painful contractions later I buzzed her again this time almost crying begging for something stronger. She came back with pethidine but not before I had to run and throw up a couple of times because of the pain. The pethidine helped take the sharpness of the contractions away but only allowed me to sleep for an hour before my waters went 'pop' waking me up with a new fresh wave of painful contractions.
At 4:30 I had my 2nd check and was 5cm dilated and had a 2nd lot of gel inserted to speed up the process. One hour of pure agonising contractions later I was told to ring my OH to come back as I was soon to be taken up to the delivery room! OH got to me within 5mins breaking many road laws!!!
THE DELIVERY:
Once upstairs I was checked again and found to be 7cm!! At this point the pain of the contractions were so strong I was almost in tears and couldn't breathe! I grabbed the gas&air as soon as I was offered it and took just 2 short breaths of it before I burst out in tears 'begging' for the epidural!! My OH (with good intention, and rules from me before the induction) denied the epidural and with help from the MW and doctor taught me how to take long hard breaths on the G&A! Which worked a treat!!
The pain was almost gone but replaced with this tremendous urge to push.
Shouting out to the doctor that I had pressure in my bum and neededto push she warned me to hold on for a few more contractions because baby wasn't ready. Well..... This was the hardest part. All I wanted to do was poo, yep I forgot about the baby and just felt like I needed to get this poo out so without warnin the doctor I released my urge and let my body do the talking and low and behold baby (and poo lol) was down the canal and almost at the finishing line. I felt the ring of fire at that point and knew this was when I needed to push. After 2 pushes and baby slipping back in I realised thy the pain was pointless if I allowed the head to slip back up so preparing myself for the worst I pushed with all my might and got the baby crowning and had him at nose point then with another push I forced his head out then allowed my next contraction to do the rest and baby was out!!!
The doctors an MWs were shocked to see me do it so quickly that they were almost not ready. I only needed a few stitches once the placenta was out and then I had the room to myself and my OH holding baby CIAN (Kee-yan) and crying our eyes out with all the love and devotion in the world!!
Let me tell you ladies, it may have been the hardest 3.5hours from 2nd induction to delivery but it was all worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat!
Cian was born at 8:06am weighing 5lbs10oz and as healthy as a boy could be!
He has taken to the breast like duck to water and we went home by 8pm that
evening!
I will upload a pic when I can get time to turn on a laptop. As for now my phone has been knackered out!!
Good luck to all of you!! Xx
