On Monday I had what I thought was my show but I figured I still had a while to go yet as I've seen loads of threads where ladies have had some show and not gone into labour. I was wrong!
At 3.15am on Tuesday I woke up and felt this pop in my stomach and my waters gushed out. Got very excited and woke up my OH and popped a pad on. I started having strong contractions very quickly and by 3.30 they were every 4 minutes so I phone the birth centre. I spoke to a lovely midwife who told me to give it an hour as it was my first and it could be a while.
After an hour I phoned back and she said to come down to the birth centre but not to count on being admitted just yet. We got there at 5am and I was having strong contractions close together so they started running the birth pool while she examined me. I was told we'd better get down to the room and get me in the pool as I was already 8cm dilated! OH got told not to worry about moving the car from the drop off area as he might miss the birth.
I got down to the room and hopped in the pool which was lovely and the midwives were telling me to just go with what my body wanted. They changed shift at 8am and they got me out of the pool to check my progress, I was fully dilated! The pushing stage went on forever, they told me I had a high pelvic arch so it would be harder for me to push him out. I wasn't progressing quickly enough in the pool so they got me out and had me walking around but he still wasn't progressing.
By now I had been pushing for two hours and was really tired and my contractions weren't long enough for me to get a really good long push. They also discovered his head was at the wrong angle so it was making pushing him out even harder so they decided to transfer me to the labour and delivery ward.
Once there they put me on a continuous monitor and told me they needed to give me an episiotamy and use a ventouse to get him out. I completely zoned out on gas and air while they were fitting the ventouse and once it was fitted they were saying to me there's a contraction building get ready to push and I couldn't feel the contraction at all. I finally did though and two contractions later and a lot of pushing and he was born.
It was the most amazing experience feeling him come out and he's gorgeous. He's breastfeeding like a pro and me and OH are totally besotted.
