So I have been extremely well and active all through my pregnancy right up to my due date and bam sciatica, struggling to walk lots of pain and weakness in one leg...
I was quite happy to let baby divide it was time to come out.
Day 40+6 my leg pains etc were really getting me down so I rang my mctimmony chiropractor and she could fit me in that day! I felt better after, leg still hurt but I got strength back in it.
Next day (41 weeks) I refused a sweep at the midwife and decided to try reflexology! The lady I found had an appt that day at 4pm. It was an interesting day as my DS had woken up with a sickness bug and spent much of the day being sick and unwell!
So at about 3pm I had a couple of slightly painful tightenings but nothing really so I carried on and went to the reflexologist. Tightenings continued about every 20 mins. DH went to see our horses at about 6pm and returned at about 7 when contractions were getting closer and more painful. I decided to get in the bath. Contractions quickly went from 8 mins to 5 mins to 2 mins!
DH called my mum to come and get DS, by the time she got there it must have been about 9.30pm and contractions were at least 2 mins apart and getting very painful.
We arrived at the hospital at 9.45pm ish, I was low risk so went to the midwife led unit with the birth pool, luckily no one else there! A male midwife and a student introduced themselves (and DH knew the student!!!). She checked my obvs and then to see how dilated I was. She thought at least 5cm so I could get in the pool... I have terrible back labours even though baby was not back to back and the water helps so much. I got in the pool at roughly 10.25pm, after some time I decided i needed some gas and air, just when I thought and said 'I can't do this!' Next contraction I said 'I need to push, baby is right there!' So the midwife said ok do what your body tells you! So I did and pushed, once head out, next body out!!! 11.11pm my baby girl was born! She stayed attached to her cord on my chest in the water for 45 mins and I then delivered the placenta myself naturally.
I had a few labial tears and one perineum tear which having stitched up was quite unpleasant!!!
I was totally left to give birth as I wanted and as my baby and body told me!
fabulous experience!!!
(After 36 hours labour, epidural, 2.5 hours pushing and episiotomy last time!)
